just wondering...
hi there -
i also had my gbs in 2004 & have gained back 59 lbs.
for a while i was set on having another procedure. I went to my Dr & checked out my options.
They of course tried to deter me, but never the less did tell me about a GBS Sleeve for the pouch. this basically strengthens the pouch.
what's held me off from having another procedure done is I took a nutrition class as an elective for my degree. During which, i REALLY LEARNED A LOT about absorption & malabsorption. Stuff that really just connected the dots for me (b/c honestly, i had no clue what was going on w/ my body). This forced me to really reevaluate my initial reasoning for getting the surg. to begin with. I wanted to live a healthier life, be more active, and most important - i wanted to be here for my son.
I came to the conclusion, that if I had another restrictive procedure, my potential quality of life as an older adult would be greatly diminished. Furthermore, I would become more of a burden on my son. Which is something that I never want.
So i wont have another restrictive procedure - instead, i'll battle with my weight (like the rest of society) for the rest of my life & pray that the rest of my life is filled with glorious days & more opportunities to live life to the fullest.
i know it sucks. TRUST ME I KNOW!! 6 & 7 years ago I use to sit & read about how post ops had basically sabotaged themselves & gained back their weight & were now looking at having 2nd OR 3rd procedures! I thought NO FLIPPIN WAY!! THAT"LL NEVER BE ME!!! Yet here I am...
I never wanted to be back here. never thought i would be. but its a reality i have to face. i did it to me, no one else did & now I have to undo it.
Its gonna take a lot of hard work - but i know that we've got an inside secret - we've got the GBS & we just have to make it start working again.
we can do it.
