hi everyone! i was just wondering about coffee. i have been drinking about a cup of it in the morning sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. i am really trying to get back to basics because ive gained about 30 pounds back in the last year. i will be 3 years out this coming december. i was wondering if drinking coffee might be detrimental to my trying to get back to basics and take some of this weight back off. i feel so nasty and fat. all my weight gain has been in my legs, boobs and butt! i was doing really good at the beginning of the year and for about 3 months until i pulled a muscle in my back and stopped working out. im trying to get back into my workout routine now. thanks everyone!

Coffee has zero calories and is basically flavored water with a stimulant (caffene).  I don't think it could detrimental to your weight loss.

Then again, like so many foods (salad or popcorn) what are you ADDING to the coffee?  Lattes, Frappes and the like are not "coffee"

I've read that caffine in moderation promotes wl.  Plain coffee will not contribute to weight gain.

However, even a small soy latte, no syrup has over 250 calories.  The specialty coffee drinks can do you in.

That's insane, you need to find a Starbucks ASAP...lol

My 24 oz Iced Venti (large) Skinny Vanilla Latte has 0 grams of Fat, 110 calories, No added sugar,  and 10 grams of Protein....basically the same nutrition as a cup of skim milk.

Unfortunately, where she lives, her closest Starbucks is about 35 miles away inside a "superstore"... and last time I was in there it was closed for "renovations"... we are SO deprived here!  LOL - BUT - we DO have lots of little independents that make great coffees.

Honestly - one of my favorites is McDonald's SF vanilla iced coffee - a few more calories since they use cream but its SO good!

.basically the same nutrition as a cup of skim milk.

That's because it is

A Venti would get 3 espresso shots as I recall so that's 3 ounces of coffee and about 9 ounces of milk with the remaining volume in ice cubes.

A latte should be 1/2 espresso and 1/2 steamed milk.

Right, the milk is where all the calories come from...not sure why that's funny.

I order a quad, so thats actually 4 espresso shots (4oz) and about a cup of skim milk, the rest is ice....but the caffeine content of my Latte is equivalent to about 2 cups of regular coffee.

I agree about the 1/2 and 1/2 for a hot latte...but cold is a different story because the milk is not frothed.

Hi Brooke!

Coffee with protein in it EVERY morning is my mainstay - the only thing detrimental to coffee (that's caffeinated anyway) is it can dehydrate you - I don't worry about that and feel it HELPS me get my fluids in for the day (which I'm usually bad about).

Glad to see someone on the boards not too far away!

I am in the same boat -- I have also gained about 30 pounds in the last year.  I drink one latte in the morning with SF white chocolate Torani.   After that, I make a SF double chocolate blended latte with one scoop of chocolate protein powder.  Sometimes I do two of these days - 28 grams of protein in each drink just from the protein powder.  Very good.  Torani makes 3 sugar free sauces for making blended drinks - SF chocolate, SF white chocolate and SF caramel - they are not calorie free but 70 calories per ounce.  The SF syrups are calorie/fat free.  Sometimes I sub syrup for the sauce to save calories ... either way it is less calories than I would consume at a meal.

Good luck to you!
