Body Fat Percentage ???

Hi folks,       new to this forum.

A year and three months out and working off the last few pounds to goal.  Then I need some cushion besides.

Does anyone minitor their body fat percentage?  If so what method do you use and how often?

I've been using the military formula and the YMCA formula to monitor my body fat goal.  I also have a body fa****er percent scale; but, I'm too prone to water retention to rely on its measurement.  A capilar is an option, but how is it used properly with excess skin?

Are there other reliable methods worth exploring?

I do not monitor it but once a year I see the doctor and they take the measurement along with everything else.  Then they tell me it's 12.3 and my ego gets bigger.

I have not had plastic surgery so my wife tells me I look like a body builder...

...a 90 year old body builder.

I have a scale that I use to monitor trends (i.e., is it going up or down). It tends to underestimate my body fat % though.

I had mine tested in a dunk tank. (Official name: hydrostatic testing). It was fun! That's supposed to be the most accurate after a DEXA scan. It was 18.1% but I know it's lower now, just no sure how much lower.

I've had it measured with calipers but they do tend to over-estimate if you have a lot of loose skin.

I want to get a DEXA scan or one of those Body Pod scans some day but right now finances are tight. I might do the dunk tank again if one comes by some place I normally go.

Our hospital periodically offers the electronic test where you hold the unit in your hand and it sends the electrical pulses out and measures how long it takes... I have no idea what they call it.  I have been getting mine done every couple of months.  (I am done losing, but am working on toning up some more).  According to the chart for this method, for women between 30 and 50, "healthy" is anything below 30% and "optimum" is 20-25%.

It's called bio-impedance.

I find the hand-held one to measure high for me. I think it's not considering that I have more boobage than average.

I wondered about that myself since I still have DD-cup boobs...
