Anyone still counting protein?

63 grams of protein is what we get the first week out of surgery.  You need to practically double that.  You are almost 2 years out, you should be getting a minimum of 100-120 grams of protein per day.  You need to increase to more at each meal if possible - 4 ounces and eat more often.  3 times per day is very little.  It is much better for our metabolism if we eat 5-6 times per day, 4 ounces at a time.  You can also supplement with protein shakes.  I add protein powder to my sugar free hot chocolate plus alittle bit of milk  - 35 grams of protein per mug.  It is delicious. I do this 2 times per day for 70grams just for my hot chocolate.

Since I don't malabsorb I'm really questioning if I still need 60gms of protein daily. I'm at goal and since meat is the easiest way to get in... and I'm not much of a fan of meat anymore... Do I seriously need 60gms daily?

I can't eat much and if I get that much protein I can't eat anything else during the day.

Those of us that malabsorb after a year need atleast 100-120, so you getting 60 grams is practically nothing.  You could ask your NUT but better yet, how is your Total Protein and albumin on your labs? That is the best way to judge if you are getting enough protein. You want your total protein to be atleast 7.2 and your albumin to be atleast 4.3-4.5

Yes! The lowest recommendations I've seen are 55-65 g per day for a menstruating woman. Personally, I think that's a little low, but 60 g puts you right in the middle of that range.

Rather than meat (which I agree limits your ability to eat other things), how about:

1) Protein shakes
2) Greek yogurt
3) Eggs
4) Fish (it's softer)
5) Cheese esp. cottage cheese and cheese sticks (also softer)

Nuts aren't a very good source - high in fat and they have more carbs & fat than protein and the protein isn't that bio-available. But I eat them anyway.

Protein bars work for some people but I find them to be a trigger food. I start out eating 1 every couple of days and the next thing you know, I'm eating a couple every day. Bah.

I do...I have the whole time. I don't do supplements so much but I will this summer with the purchase of a handy dandy ice cream maker and protein ice cream recipes from eggface (theworldaccordingtoeggface.com) . I get from 120 to 160 grams of protein a day from meat, eggs, nuts...

So many people who are further out than me say that it's necessary.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

That sounds like a great way to get protein:-)  I've been thinking of getting a machine for my Kitchenaid mixer because of the grandchildren.  I had a stand alone before, loved it, but it was plastic and the paddle broke, so I haven't used it in a long time.  And the warm weather will be coming soon.  Thanks for the idea.

I do - most days. as long as I get 80 - then I stop counting, and just get the protein first.
Most days I try to get 40-80 gr in supplements.( depends on a day), but 1-2 shakes a day is very comon for me.  I try to get 100-150 gr of proteins a day - my tested prot levels are low -normal.

FYI: I do not write down everyday - just count in my head all prot at app 4-5 p.m.  that allows me to increase - add more-  if I am too low that day.  (still have 2 meals)  Most day - i try to get 40 gr as a shake first thing in the morning, then some food, etc. I try to get most of my proteins before 8:00 p.m.

I'm still counting and I aim for 125 g to 150 g. Less than that and my serum protein levels drop below normal.
