Issues with low iron etc
Okay, so I'm 5yrs out and have been doing fairly well all things considered. Last year I moved to Washington state from IL and now its absolutly crazy. I've been sick for several months and they think its some autoimmune disease (still doing tests), however while they are exploring this opiton they found that my iron and viatmen d are low and are dropping despite supplements. Now its off for blood tests that make no sense-just to rule things out. I am wondering if this problem is just do to the gastric-bypass and if so what are my options?
Here's the funny part, i'm being tested for ciealc disease, i have low iron and yet I eat a crapload of meat and limit my carbs, but the dr. isn't hearing that part. Any information or ideas would be of great help.
Oh and no i don't have a surgeon here, my primary is aware of the surgery and sias she can deal with the issues of it.
thanks

Celiac disease will cause even worse absorption of D and Iron...Because the celia in the intestines collapse completely...causing diareah, cramping..all sorts of nice stuff. If you so much as have anything that has wheat or gluten in it. There are things out there for you to eat but it runs in my family so it was a real fear for us for a while.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Celiac will present itself in a wide range of symptoms..from mild (if you don't eat alot of bread products) to massive problems if you're extremely sensitive and you get more and more sensitive to glutten as it progresses..My allergist was the best resource on this because you really can't tell for SURE unless they do a biopsy of the inside of the intestines..I stay away from those things for the most part anyway so it may take a while for the symptoms to get really bad.

Um,I'm right here.
does anyone you are seeing grasp the malabsorption thing? I am only about 20 mi from you.
But I'll be gone May 9 for the summer.
You can eat all the meat you want, but if you can't break it out, well, you can't

There are 5 people in my family with Celiac Disease. The one common symptom we all have is low iron. I don't have many symptoms at all, which of course is bad - if I got the diarhea I would at least be tempted to stay away from gluten - which is not only found in bread, but almost every other processed food. When I started reading your post, I thought CD before I read it. It's good to rule it out. Hope for your sake it, you don't have it. If you do, it's a whole lot of new learning for you.

I recommend you find a good Gastroenterologist and get an Endoscopy done. This is truely the only way to really know if you have celiac disease. They can do a biopsy of your small intestines. It is a good thing to know one way or another because the treatment is so easy - just stay away from gluten. Granted it can be tough, it is in many foods but it can make you feel so much better. If you do have this, you will just get worse and you will eventually become symptomatic and your labs will continue to get worse. It is worth having one endoscopy.
