i had a 3 hour sugar test, had to drink a bottle of stuff that tasted like pepsi. the tests came back and my sugar was 30 and critical. has anyone else been thru this after surgery? i told them i get all sweaty in the middle of the night so they wanted to do this test. now what does that mean? am i a dietbetic now? i see a dr on monday. i hope i dont need insuln.

Sounds like a Glucose test with low blood sugar and result indicating reactive hypoglycemia.  You would'nt need insulin: quite the opposite, you've got too much already!

The way I understand this is that after WLS the food we eat can move very rapidly thru the digestive system causing a blood sugar spike from the rapid digestion.  So its like your body thinks you ate a bunch of candy bars and releases a bunch of insulin.  But since you didn't eat all those candy bars, all that insulin mops up the little bit of sugar you did have and then some leaving you with low blood sugar.

The solution is likely a dietary adjustment.  Obviously if you "graze" eat all day, you'll never get than dump of food into the intestines to begin with.  So, think 5-7 smaller meals instead of 3 big ones.

Let us know how this goes.

For me it's white carbs since I don't eat sugar to speak of. I found that if you eat protein balanced with good carbs the insulin levels will stay stable. That means they will go up and then if they go back down, they'll go slowly.

I pretty much had to quit eating white bread, rice and pasta..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

The longer you stay away from sugar the better you will feel...and the easier it will be to do. Sugar is like crack for an addict, actually.

I could be VERY wrong, but it's my understanding that a GTT is not accurate post RNY.  We're not supposed to tolerate glucose in large amounts after surgery.  The expectation is that our bodies will fight back.  Am I confused?
