hi all,
ok i saw my surgon today for a yearly.  he gave me a dixie cup and said thats all i should be eating at a meal. right now i eat more than that. i mean alot more.. how many of these cups do i eat in a day? i did gain 10 pounds since i saw him. which isnt that bad but i dont want to gain anmore either. so what should i do? do you all eat that little cup size at a meal. i am 6 years out.
i just get so confused.. any help would be great.... Anita

i just measured the cup with water and 1/3 cup is what the cup holds

At one year, I think my Doc said I was supposed to be eating one cup.  Now, that would be measured as if your meal had been pureed.  Although the job is performed by your teeth, imagine a big bowl of salad run though a blender: I woudl think it's likely to measure a cup.

How much do I think you should be eating?  Well, as many calories as necessary to maintain your weight without gaining.  You will have to do some experimenting and food logging to figure out how much that would be.

a third of a cup for a meal is okay if you're having 10 meals a day. LOL! It doesn't make sense to me to limit you to a third of a cup at 6 years out. It's not about that.

Did you need to gain 10 pounds? Are you severely underweight? Are you way over your normal weight or having trouble getting back down to goal..

I don't limit my meals to a size but I do get full quickly. I figure I can eat about a cup at a meal. That would be mashed down and pureed..Some things can fill me up quicker and make me full longer (dense protein like steak) and so I watch that and eat probably less than that. I try and keep it balanced with veggies and fruits if I can. If it comes down to eating the steak; potato; veggies and texas toast...I eat some of the steak first, then veggies and then maybe some of the potato but leave the toast..

I'm not nearly as far out as you so I could be way off..I don't pretend to know everything but I do know myself. Good luck to you.

i should of asked questions after he gave me that cup..
i did gain 10 pounds. i would like to get back down to 150 pounds. he did say i lok good.
i know i need to cut down on the baking. i love sweets and i know i am going to start buying splenda and my bf dont help he says splenda isnt good but i know it is. i am writing my foods down starting today and go from there. mainly starting out new . i hope it lasts.

i just made an app with the dietican  for april 14th. so from today on i will write my foods down and measure and drink my water...

Good idea! You really need to know where you are before you can plot a course to where you WANT to be...it just amazed me that your surgeon said something like that, with a cup that size..

Dietician is a great idea but the journaling is awesome too...good luck.

6 years out and you only 10 lbs that is dam good.  I am only 18 months out and I can eat!!! Actually if I do the protein first like the rules state I can only eat about 4 oz tops but if I eat junks like slider foods I can eat a whole lot.  If I eat rice or noodles I get stuck and if I eat to much.  I don't think I ate that little cup since I was 3 months out.

 5'4": Surgery 240/Current 135/Goal 140 = 105 lbs lost!!!  BMI 22.5 I'm Normal
