Chia seeds question

I have decided to introduce chia seeds to my diet.  I am trying to figure out if our surgery will interfere with consuming who chia sees.  All the information I have read said it was good to eat them either way.  Any information would be appreciated.!

Grrrr...I meant consuming chia seeds whole or ground up, not "who chia seeds."

I've put them in my sugarfree PB cookies.  They seem to improve the texture and add a little crunch.  I've tried just eating them whole, but they get stuck in my teeth and between my cheek & gum.  I can't STAND that sensation!!!  They make other liquids gelatinous, and I'm not a fan of that, either.  You'll have to figure them out for yourself, but they're safe to take.

Chia seeds are the kind of seeds you sprinkle on the Chia Pet and sprout!  When I first heard of people taking them as a dietary supplement, I thought they'd gone 'round the bend!  Buuuuut, I googled them and found that they're an excellent source of Omega-6 and -3 fatty acids.  Being a DSer, I don't absorb much fat, so getting Omega-3s by fish oil capsules was a huge waste of time & money.  So, I added some chia seeds to my PB cookie recipe - another DSer on our board did this (it wasn't my idea), and they turned out great!  The recipe's simple:

1 c peanut butter (creamy or chunky, doesn't matter)
1 egg
1 c sugar (but I used Splenda, and only 1/2 c.  because a whole cup was waaaay too sweet and artificial-tasting to me)
1 t. vanilla
2 T. chia seeds

Mix it all together, roll it into balls, squash 'em down a little on the cookie sheet, and bake at 350 for about 10-12 minutes, until lightly browned.  Try to let them cool before you cram them all in your mouth at once...  They're not low fat (because I had a DS), but they're low sugar and very yummy.  You could try making them with reduced-fat PB if you wanted.
