13 "new" compunds in Maple Syrup
I enjoy French Toast and Pancakes from time to time. Not in as large a portion as I used to obviously, but still with butter and maple syrup. Now, maple syrup is, for all intents and purposes sugar and needs to be treated as such, but this story was fascinating.
Apparently, a recent study of real maple syrup found new healthful compounds including anti-oxidants. I am just awestruck every time we find out that real food is infinitely complex and more than the simple sum of its parts.
My daily calories are precious and I want them to be the best. If I choose to add 200 calories for syrup, I want it to be real maple syrup and not
CORN SYRUP, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, WATER, CELLULOSE GUM, CARAMEL COLOR, SALT, SODIUM BENZOATE AND SORBIC ACID (PRESERVATIVES), ARTIFICIAL AND NATURAL FLAVORS, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE.
