head count for Reactive Hypoglycemia?
Old thread, but I wanted to chime in that you can add me to the ranks of RH sufferers
I've suspected it for a long time. I don't get hungry, but "fuzzy in the head" has been my signal for needing to eat.
I've recently realized that a few episodes were CLEAR indicators that I probably had RH, so finally I bought a glucose meter.
One of the many times that glucose meter has confirmed that my self-diagnosis is spot-op was yesterday.
Came home from work and had some Fage and Berries at 5 pm.
Got distracted, and four hours later hubby was making dinner, and I was feeling really lousy, nauseous.... realized I hadn't eaten in four hours. Got all snappy at hubby and he looked at me funny and then it struck me, could I be having an RH episode? Blood sugar was 61..... the shakes, racing heart, and drenched in sweat was quick to follow. Thought that RH led to hunger, but I had to force myself. An hour later my BS was falling again.
After a week of my Blood Sugar yoyoing all over the place, I figure it's time to see a doctor about this, because I just don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I'm sick of how it makes me feel.
Is an endocrinologist the right specialist to see? I dump like a truck, and I worry they might want me to do a Glucose Tolerance Test....
Anyway, thought I'd check in as one among the ranks.

I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!
Just a thought for those having issues with cereal in the morning... I read an article somewhere that said the chance of an occurence of RH might be increased when you haven't eaten in a long time (meaning something you have for breakfast, when you've gone 8-12 hours since your last meal might cause RH, but the same food might not have the same effect at any other time of day.
Ive self diagnosed RH in myself. I can't always predict what food will trigger it, but when it happens I can always track it back to white carbs (most recently was a small amount of white rice). I'm curious, who has seen a doctor about this issue? I'm wondering if it's even worth the cost of seeing the doctor, getting officially diagnosed if the treatment is simply diet modification anyhow...

I have struggled with the reactive hypoglycemia myself. But, like you, I started journaling the crashes and what foods I had eaten. Mine seems to be affected by the first meal I have of the day. I have had to give up cereal and oatmeal early in the day. I can have those things for dinner but not first thing in the mornings. I also find that milk and icecream are triggers. So, I don't eat/drink those things. If I eat cereal I use the Lactaid milk. My episodes are few and far between now. I do still have the crashes occasionally, but it is usually because I ventured away from what I know works and started my day off with less protein and more carbs or just had to have some ice cream. LOL.
