I don't have answers for you as I am in a similar situation as you are, however I just want you to know you are NOT a loser! I had RNY 9 years ago and have gained back half of the weight I lost. I am trying to take it in small steps and celebrate the good things that I do for myself and not focus on the things I do wrong. I actually logged on this evening looking for answers from others on how to get back in control myself. Hang in there! Hopefully we will find answers soon.
You need to find a support system that will help you find the answers you need. Have you considered cross-addiction counseling? I read about some post-ops turning to drinking, shopping, gambling, etc. as an outlet for their addictive behavior. Then there is also the depression that comes with the guilt. Most communities have some kind of mental health providers who's fees are based on income, if that is an issue.
Just as we are learning that there is more to obesity than simply overeating, there is a lot more to addictive behaviors than just making "bad" choices.
Are there support groups in your area? Does your surgeon have one? And one does not have to be an alcoholic to go to AA meetings. You might also find some support in OA meetings. Both are free. As useful as online groups can be, I do find that face-to-face groups are more useful.
Good luck.

Go hang here for awhile. Then lay out your issue.
1 of 3 of us will have issues with alcohol! 1 out of 3!! Most everyone will have some regain, some stays on, some can be lost.
We are 10+ yrs out, some less, but been around the block. It's missing all the warm and fuzzy "welcome to the group" newbies stuff, but they are a very loving supportive group with these kinds of issues.
Not too many at least one of us has not lived thru, as yet.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
I will be 4 years out on March 23, I to have regained about 30 pounds and drink alot more than I should. My husband says all the time " where do you put it ". I started the 5 day pouch test yesterday so see if I can get myself on track, problem is I keep thinking about what to drink or eat next because Im starving for food. Im drinking protein shakes, eating sugar free jello, chicken broth, and drinking water, I hope I can make it through today because tomarrow should be easier with soft proteins. I dont feel like a failure and dont think you are either, I agree that obesity is alot more in depth than having wls. Hang in there and at least your on here and you are aware of the problem, look for some free support groups like AA or something. Good luck, Deb
There are a lot of free groups if you are concerned about your drinking.
Five years ago I found myself struggling with alcohol, it took me a long time and a lot of weight gain to get help. I don't have answers for you, but the answer for me was Alcoholics Anonymous. I've been sober for three years on 4/20 (ironic-I think not?) through the grace of my HP and the people in AA. This last year I have managed to take off all but 10lbs of the weight that I put on. I had to work through everything and it was not easy but it was worth it.
You don't have to wait, but honestly I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't do. It is so hard to take that first step to getting help and I'm here if you need someone to listen. I'll come back on the next few days and check my mail.
Oh, and I'm on that list that Vitalady linked to also.
