It's genetic

I came across this article and was reminded that during our losing phases, my wife and I ate differently.  I was finding success with a higher proportion of Carbs than she was eating.  This left me to conclude that the "sweet spot" for weight loss was different for everyone and, I thought, evolution was the answer.

Consider a group of Cavemen that was suddenly struck with famine.  If they all responded to food the same way, they would all die at the same time and there goes the human race!  By having slight genetic differences to how we respond to food, our ancestors would be able to avoid a mass extinction caused by famine.

The implication is that any of ideas touted by the weight loss gurus: Low Carb, Low Fat, Raw Food, or whatever won't work for everyone in all cases.  Humans are all wired differently and we need chart our individual paths to success.  I always suggest people start with 50% protein in their diet and see how that goes and modify accordingly.  Right now, I'm at 30-40% protein and doing fine.

I guess it really is a case that "your mileage may vary."

Interesting.  I find that the more science learns about obesity, the more complex an issue it becomes.  Unfortunately, most people prefer the old answers and easy ignorance.
