do I have to take the steroids?

I am dealing with the dreaded Iron deficincy and I will be getting IV infusions.  I was wondering if anyone had these without steroids.  I understand they give you steroids to prevent a rare anaphalactic shock. syndrome.  Can I ask for a waiver for this.  I can not get rid of steroid weight no matter what.  I do not want them at all.  How can I have one without the other.  Please answer if you have had the infusions.  Thanks for your support.  D.

I just finished two infusions 1 week apart. I did not receive any steroids for either infusion. Each provider/hospital may have a different policy.

I had to have 3 iron infusions and I didn't have any steroids! 

I had to have steroids and it was a good thing.  I was severely allergic.  Couldnt' breath, then needed IV steroids, breathing treatments, antihistamines and other stuff that I dont' remember.  I was hospitalized for 3 days.  Unfortunately, I needed to get 3 more treatments and this happened everytime.  They premedicated me each time but it didn't stop the reaction, just lessened it.  I tried 2 different types of IV Iron and was allergic to both.  Iron Dextran and Iron Sucrose.
