Went to DISNEY and ended up in the Hospital!!!!
Hi All : )
So finally the day had arrived...
We took the family and went to Disney. It was great!! Seeing old friends (I used to live there about 12 years ago) and just being with my family was great!
About 6 days into our vacation I started having horrible pain. I can only compare it to labor pains. I have had chronic back pain so I am used to pain and am not a baby about it. This was unbelieveable. I knew I had to get help.
I called my surgeon and he sent me to the hospital in Celebration, which is supposed to be wonderful and a center of excellence for GB. Got to the emergency room at 11pm. I had thrown up about 15 times and was so dehydrated. The gave me IV's and gave me morphine for the pain. I was so scared. My mother went with me (she is a retired nurse) and we were really worried. The did a CT scan of my stomach (thats were all the pain was).
At 5 am they said a ovarian cyst had broken apart and thats what the pain was from. I talked to my surgeon and he wants me to get the DVD of the scan because he wants to make sure thats what it is. He said sometimes they dont know what they are looking at and he wants to see it.
What a scare! I will report back after I get all the info. The funniest thing is that I believe thats really what it was because I got my period the next day. Definately makes sense! My mother was saying maybe the excessive walking at Disney is what got it going. I have never had that happen before. When they gave me the morphine, it only took the edge off, I was still in such pain!
Anybody else have a similar situation? It was a crazy ride! More intense than Space Mountain! Disney is really a magical place!

PS The doc in the ER told me to take Naperson. I said, "I am a bypass patient" He said,"You cant take that?" So much for knowing bypass patients...
Wow...I don't have any experience in those things but wanted to say how happy I am that you are on the mend...definitely let us know. Even with a hospital that is suppose to be a center of excellence for GB, you really have to be your own advocate..If we don't know what we're doing, they can just be stupid and do so much damage..I try and educate my own family but...it's scary.
I'm so glad it seems to be over..but do take care of yourself. At least you had the 6 days..

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I was absolutely fine the next day (we were there for 9 days). I will let you know what the Dr. thinks. I also need to schedule an appointment with my ob/gyn.
You are so right about being your own advocate. I guess with my mother being a nurse for over 30 years I have heard so many stories... So many people think if a Dr. says it, it must be true! I never felt that way. Mom has always taught me to ask a lot of questions and always get a second opionion.
I like that my Dr. didnt even believe what the guy reading the report said. He said he wants to see the the actual DVD. He called me twice at Disney to make sure I was okay. At least he cared and checked on me. I told him about the naperson, he said he wasnt surprised.
Yes, I am watching myself. My husband took the girls to animal Kingdom so I could stay at the Hotel and sleep. I was upset that I missed that day with the girls but it could have been really bad. I kept thinking of "Special Kay" and what happened to her. I almost got myself a little crazy doing the "what if" thing!
Let you guys know when I know what it was all about.
I really hope to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I'm not sure...it doesn't sound like it could be it but maybe the excitement and the walking AND the time of the month...I know that some women have had stress bring on their period so I know hormones and stress are interconnected..I have to think hormones had SOMETHING to do with it..
You've heard the stories about women who have their period start on their wedding day...stuff like that makes you think: hmmm.
And they say that babies aren't suppose to run a fever from cutting a tooth but my son just happened to cut his first tooth at the same time that he had a "possible" ear infection and spiked a fever (and had a seizure). Doctor's aren't always all that brilliant but the ones that listen and care a worth their weight in gold..
It's all just a guess and if the doctor can find ANYTHING that might tell him...it will definitely be interesting. And if he can't find anything, go with hormones, stress and lots of walking..

You are so right...stress, hormones and all those other things play into it too.
Doctors who listen are few and far between....not a lot of those out there!!
Thats interesting what happened to your son. Stress can bring on many things...
It fascinates me what happened. OB/GYN should be able to give me more information or more guesses...
Hormones are an interesting thing...they brought me to the floor.
By the way, the Celebration Hospital was beautiful and very clean. The CT room was made to look like a beach cabana and smelled like suntan lotion, it was quite peaceful. Never been to a CT room like that!!!

Hormones cause the uterus to give us those nice little things we love to refer to as cramps..They cause PMS. They cause carb cravings..I believe they cause migraines too. Gotta love hormones!
It's nice they take such care in outfiting the CT room. Too bad the doctors aren't as interested in knowing about gastric issues...but they might have checked into it at least.

I talked to the Dr. several times telling him each time I was a bypass patient. You would think he would get it. I know the ER can be crazy but to offer me Naperson...
I also gave the Doc and the nurse my doctors phone number and they said they would call him. They never did... I know he was pretty upset about that.
I agree with you about Hormones, I have read some info on the migraine thing too. You know its all connected!
Thanks for your advice. Let you know when I know!

Howdy Melissa.
Good to hear you're doing better!
I've had an ovarian cyst rupture. I thought there was something wrong with me. I thought I was in for something awful- plus the ER (Day after New years, NEVER a good time to go in) was insane and I didn't get seen to until nearly 12 hours after I came in, if it'd been something serious I swear I would have been in some serious trouble. As it was I was given pain meds and told what the sit. was. It hurt SO bad thought I was gonna die.
For me, nothing "new" to have brought it on, no new stress, exercise anything just day to day life. Got to feeling better pretty quickly after it'd finished passing or whatever.
