Musings on Clean Eating and Half & Half

Over the years since surgery I have started practicing Clean Eating as much as I can.  I funny thing happened with the Half & Half I buy for my coffee.  Normally I buy Organic Valley brand Half & Half.  Ingredients (not surprisingly) reads: Milk, Cream.

Recently we had a guests over for dinner and Panna Cotta was on the menu and to reduce the cost of the meal I got store brand Half & Half which, one would expect was Milk & Cream, right?  Nope: Milk, Cream, Sodium Citrate, and Disodium Phosphate.  I don't know about you, but I just don't get enough Disodium Phosphate in MY diet.

I don't know about you but after surgery I'm struck by the difference between food and "edible food-like substances."  I eat less now, I might as well try and make it the best.

Yeah, it's a real eye opener when you start (or get back to) reading labels...My husband has become a real label reader and questions EVERYTHING! So we're a team on my eating. His eating has changed a bunch too. I think it takes us (well, him) a month to eat a loaf of bread now. And it's alot more expensive too because I don't buy the cheap stuff. I buy the GOOD stuff even if I'm not going to eat it.

I loved whta you said "edible food-like substances." I'm going to use that more!
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

omg.... you are hitting the nail on the head w/ this post!

We are talking about just that in the nutrition course im currently taking.
Because of that - it's got me looking at the the INGREDIANTS - not just the Nutritional label.
Did you know frozen veggies are chuck full of sodium?? i didnt, until last night when i was searching for something USA or LOCALLY grown (which i guess we dont grow anything here as everything i checked out was a product of Mexico - except the greens of course - event the "organically grown" was a product of Mexico!!) which was disappointing, so i switched over to the frozen veggies only to find them loaded w/sodium & other stuff that you would never think would be in veggies!!!

Its very frustrating indeed.

The Will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.
