Maybe you guys have a thought
Hi Guys! My name is Robin I guess i am now a wls graduate, i had my rny on January 29th 2008, since that time i have lost 245 lbs.
Over the past 6 months i have had an issue that no one can solve. What are your thoughts.
I have had sever/ chronic pain in my lower right abdomen. It started out with my obgyn thinking it was the ruptured cyst he found on my ovary. After a few months he removed the ovary since i had no relief from the pain. Th pain continued through christmas and into the new year, I have had 13 visits to the er in 2 months. Most recently i spent a week in the hospital and they did an emergency appendectomy, and yep.. no relief. I am getting so run down from all of this and am running our of places to turn. My surgeon that did my Rny has been working with me very close and actucaly did my appendectomy. We just cant figure it out. Any ideas? oh i should also mention, i have had tons of ct scans, ultra sounds, mri's, xrays and now 2 surgerys alont with a colonoscopy and tons and tons of blood work.
Thanks for your thoughts
Robin

no one has even brought up the idea of ibs just because i am regular, we did a colonoscopy when i was in the hospital and everything was 100% perfect (which is great news... i guess)
Im not sure about Endometriosis either, i am for sure going to bring it up as a thought.
I see a new internal Medicine doctor tomorrow morning and pretty much im going to ask him to run every test known to man. I want an answer, there has to be one, you dont just one day develop sever pain and not have a root cause for it.

Robin,
Is is possible the pain is actually muscular? With the amount of weight loss you've had (great job by the way) your muscular system has to have changed. Maybe try massage, talk to your doctor about it, yoga could help.
Good luck, this may not be the issue, but at least it's something to try.

Robin,
Great job on the WL! You have lost a LOT of weight. Has your doctor talked to you about scar tissue build up? I have cysts on my right ovary that have ruptered and have had my appendix out. I have had a lot of scar tissue build up that has caused a lot of pain. I had the scar tissue removed and have been a lot better ever since.

Thank you to all of you, this has been quite the journey. Last week when my surgeon went in to take the apendix out he did a full on search of EVERYTHING in my abdomen, we took out the appendix, he douns cysts on my left ovary which we knew about (and definitly dont help with the pain, but having a second ovary removed when im 23 just isnt an option, babies are still hopefully in the future).
About the Muscle thought, I have been thinking about and discussing that with my family and just throwing ideas around they they think its totally obsurd., I see a new internal medicine doctor tomorrow morning so i will be asking him for sure. I have a LARGE amout on hanging skin on my abdomen (i wouls say about 10 lbs) and have been thinking that with as much as it hangs and how heavy it is, that Possibly it is pulling my muscles in weird places and directions they arent supposed to be. (everyone thinks its a crazy thought, but i have heard of weirder things)
Im just starting to get frustrated and all of the doctors are to a point of just sending me to a pain specialist to i can be on narcotics the rest of my life because no one can figure out what is wrong with me and there are even a few doctors who i have seen that think i am making it up to get pain medicine.

My first thought: gallbladder
2nd thought after reading you have a huge amount of skin is that your skin is pulling which can cause pain. You might want to see if he can write you a letter of medical necessity to get a tummy tuck approved.
Do you also have bloating with this? I'm thinking if it were IBS, you would have bloating. Is it a pain all the time, or just around when you eat?
By any chance do you use lots of splenda? I also heard of something in a book that a woman (a wls patient) coined "scramps" as the doctors couldn't diagnose her, looked at all types of problems it could be, ruled them all out one by one, and then she stopped her splenda intake and it went away. (It sounds stupid, I know but its a thought that came to my mind, and it was worth mentioning)
Sorry for all the questions...

Robin, I'm assuming you've had a GI series and an endoscopy; but if not, you may want to talk to your MD about that. I have had two bowel obstructions which caused similar symptoms, over the past year; and which required surgical repair. Basically, what happened was scar tissue "twisting" the intestine, and causing severe pain. These were acute outbreaks, not chronic-type pain, and may have nothing to do with what you have; but thought I'd pass it along anyway. Ask your doctor to make sure this isn't what's going on with you.
