It happened so fast!

Hi ladies!
I've been MIA for week now and i have truly missed this board. I got admitted into the hospital last Tuesday and was discharged today around 2

This is my story.. some of it is TMI

Tuesday evening around 6:00, I started burping and it smelled just like rotten eggs. I brushed my teeth, ate 2 peppermints but stil it was horrible. Then I kept going to the bathroom (#2).  Around 7, I started getting pains in my upper stomach and i could hardly stand up. I felt like I had to throw up but nothing was comming up. I was at work in serious pain!! I finally threw up and it was brown and tasted just like rotten eggs and acid. I told one the nurses to look at it and she told me that it was bile and I should go to the ER, now! I walked downstairs to the ER and it was so crowded. They just had a major Trauma and 2 Gun Shot wounds so i decided to walk across the street to another hospital. I cried all the way there cause I was in so much pain.
As soon as i walked in the door, i puked bile all over the floor and filled up 2 basins full of bile. It was so gross. They quickly took me in the back, asked me my medical history and took me to Xray and CT then gave me lots of Morphine. Within 20 minutes, the Dr told me that I had a small bowell obstruction and he was going to admit me into the hospial.  Since it  was small, he tried to drain bile and fluid by an NG tube to avoid surgery for 2 days. The NG tube was the worst thing I have had. It was a huge tube that went through my nose into my stomach.  After 2 days, it worked but my stomach was still in pain. Thursday morning at 10 am, the doctor came in the room and told me that he was taking me to surgery around 1. I was so scared. At  2, they came and got me and preped me for the OR and at 3, I was being pushed in the OR. The surgery lasted an hour and a half. It went well. He fixed the obstruction and repaired both of my hernias. He did it open so I have 21 staples in my belly.  The next day, Friday, I was starving but all i could have was ice chips til I passed gas. Finally i got clear liquids Saturday afternoon. I started eating Monday night and doc said I was doing good and could go home today. I got home this afternoon.
My tummy is sore but the pain is not that bad. I am on soft foods and bed rest til Monday.
My mom talked me into coming to her house til Monday so she could take care of me.

It was a horrible experiance and happend so dang quick. I'm happy to be home now!!!  One good thing is that my holiday weight is gone plus some extra. lol

WOW. So help me if I burp and it smells like rotten eggs, I'm gonna park myself in the ER and scream bloody murder until someone looks at me..That's so scary. I'm so glad you came here and posted this. It really bares reminding..there are things that can happen and it happens SO fast.

I'm so glad you got it taken care of relatively quickly..I'm glad you're home and I'm glad you have your mom taking care of you..

Take it very easy! Did you contact your surgeon's office and let them know? I'm sure that working in a hospital saved alot of time but still, his office should know about it.

Yes, I let my surgeon know and my PCP know. I have 3 different follow up appointments next week.

WOW!!! what an ordeal. do they know what caused the obstruction?
