Losing weight

All of you are doing such a wonderful job at maintaining. But I'm needing to lose. I'm not at my goal weight yet after 2.5 yrs. I've decided to start back on the ol' train and try to get the rest of my weight off. I've got about 30 lbs to go. I'd love to lose 50 but I'll shoot for the first 30 then we'll see.

How many calories do you all recommend to lose weight? My surgeon is big on 500-600 cals to lose. What do you guys think?

I'm making some changes around here like getting rid of snack food. (My kids aren't happy with me but that's life!)  I've started back to exercising with my WII Fit. I'm taking my vitamins and trying to get more water in by way of Crystal Light. I don't like water. I am going to start posting my food on here. That seems to be a common thread in helping you all.

Any other suggestions to help me on my journey that has helped you?

Thanks,
Janie

  Hi Janie:

So glad your here!

Okay here's the things I have learned....

Protein first!!!!! I can not stress this enough!!!

Drink Drink Drink  all day long.  Find something you enjoy to drink, you are more likely to pick it if you like it.  For me its Crystal light classic orange and Tea with Splenda and Lemons.

I always have protein in my car and purse because I must snack!

Walnuts, almonds, beef jerky, south beach protein bars (cinn//raisin is my favorite), cheese sticks (WW brand has less sodium than the others). For me good snacks keep me from messing up!

Working out is a must... you sound like your on top of that with the Wii fit, just make sure it gets your heart rate up high enough. You can do this and it can happen.

Please check back and let us know how you are doing.  You have made the decision to get on top of it and get it done.  You can do it!

If I can be of any help, please leave me a message!

Thanks for the advice. I haven't thought about keeping protein with me all the time.

I loved the Blueberry White Tea Crystal light but I think they have quit making it. So I'm drinking Crystal light iced tea with lemon. I have really been doing some drinking the last couple of days to get back in the habit of drinking. IT may be difficult at work but I'm going to give it a go anyway.

Why walnuts and almonds? Are they lower in fat? I'm going to start logging my food. Today has been a good day. I made up some chicken salad and some little turkey meatloafs. I also made up my version of orange cheesecake with cottage cheese, sugar free cool whip and sugar free jello.
It helps to feed my sweet cravings.

A friend of mine was telling me that she made little crackers out of parmesean cheese. Think I may try that. I have be prepared! I have cheesesticks and turkey deli meat to snack on too if I have to snack.

I found some Kashi bars tonight that I'm going to try. I try to stay away from stuff like that if I can but they looked good so my husband and I thought we'd try them. They have 12 grams of protein.and 6 gms of fiber.

I'm like you. I MUST SNACK! The nutritionist and my surgeon frown on snacking but it's a must or I really blow it. If I keep good snacks then I'm OK.

I'll stop rattling for now!
Thanks for your help!
Janie

Janie:

You are really thinking with those different healthy snacks you are making.

Walnuts and Almonds are great sources of protein(and good oils), and I can keep them in the car at all times so if Im hungry, I have something.  I also can make a small meal out of it.  I have my almonds in the car then when I get home I have a small salad or  some kind of good carb  some cheese and an apple,  I'm set and I had a meal.

Logging your food will also help.

One day I was logging my food (I do it in a notebook) and my daughter said "Mommy you forgot the cheesestick and your tea". Little people help to keep you honest too....Such a joy, my two little girls!

Well, I am off to the chiropractor.  Its a high of 19 today and I have my nuts in the car!!!

Congrats on doing so well, you are planning and that( for me) is always the key!  You can get there!!!

Janie,
I am in the same boat as you. I am about 2.5 years out from my VSG and I am not at my goal weight either. I kept hitting plateaus and then the Holidays came. So like you I am getting back in the saddle again. I have about 70 more pounds to go. I am going to follow your progress, good luck!
