I have RNY three and a half years ago. I never hit goal weight which was upsetting.. I started at 240 and held at 155. 2 years post op I put on 10 lbs found out my thryoid was low and went on Armour was losing some of the weight but since Armour has been out of stock I am on synthroid where I gained the few lbs I lost plus 10 more. I am so upset with the weight gain..

I need to get back on track and I am having a hard time doing it.. Any suggestions on how to kick these lbs. Does the 5 day pouch test really work?? I know i have to do something before the weight keeps creeping back up..

I guess the question is should I go back to protein shakes and has anyone found this to work.? Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Thanks

I don't know that I have any answers for you. But I would suggest posting on the NC forum as well. There are a few that are further out and may be able to help you. Good Luck.

Yes, the five day pouch test is sort of a mental and physical re-set. You know how to do this..Protein first, good carbs, all your vitamins, plenty of water..don't drink with meals, no sodas. It's back to basics.

You'll need to identify the trigger foods that you'll have to cut out completely and stay away from them as much as you can until you rid your body of those urges..

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I am about16 months out.  I started at 248 and got down to 145 and now I am at 155.   I honestly have been very lazy lately and noticed I am grazing on sweets and bad carbs.   chips grrrrr..    Would you or someone please explain to me the 5 day pouch test....??   Also.. I have been going through some emotional turmoil at home and have begun to exchange alcohol in place of what once was my cruch of food.    I want to get back on track before these pounds start creeping back up...

Thank you so much

You can google it but here it is in a nut shell:

It's like starting over. Starting with liquids, protein drinks and lots and lots of water and then pureed foods, then soft foods...It's like a pouch "reset" but it's also a mind reset.

You have to stay away from the offending foods longer and longer. The longer you stay away, the easier it is to stay away. alcohol is a drug, food was a drug...think of your offending foods as a drug and you'll get the idea.

So is the synthroid contributing to the weight gain?  Maybe you should have your doctor look at it and see if you need to adjust your dosage.

I am in the same boat and think this will be a good group for accountability! Looking forward to getting back to basics. I've started by getting my vitamins in first and foremost! I found the Flinstones Gummy ones with Calcium and Vitamin D to be rather tasty. I also found that the Bariatric Advantage chewy lemon bites to be helpful in getting my all of my calcium in.They are like Starbursts candy.  I have really had problems getting my calcium and vitamins in so this is my first step! I may try the 5 day pouch test but it's getting back to basics is the only way! I hate it that I've gained this 15 lbs. My husband bought me a pair of PJs for Christmas but I've got to get some of my weight off to get in them. That's part of my motivation.

The nice thing about the pouch test is that it lets you know that your pouch still works . I did it almost a year ago & it was good at getting me back to basics . And when I ate regular food again I got full faster . I probably need to do it again . During the day I only do shakes , but in the evening I eat dinner with the kids & snack too much . Old habits come flying back easily .

Yes, back to the basics.  I have not done the pouch test, but I'm sure it helps, just to get the junk out of our bodies.    I'm still using fit day.  I know that helps.

I think we have to keep foremost in our minds the joy we felt loseing the weight.  I don't want to ever lose that again.
