Carb Question....
Hello Everyone...
I've gained 15 lbs in the past month mainly due to a new medication for my rheumatoid arthritis. I want to get these pounds off before 15 becomes 20.
When there is a gain, I've always read where everyone says go back to basics...protein first, then veggies, fruit etc. I've also read that many feel that in order to keep weight off that we basically need to live eating a low carb lifestyle.
My question.... on average how many carbs per day do you eat to lose any weight gained and how many do you eat per day to maintain?
I am so confused. I never got to my goal of 140 but i did get to my all time low of 150 which I would like to get back to and then eventually get to my personal goal of 140.
Also how late at night do you stop eating? My other problem is late night eating which I try and satisfy with a piece of fruit, jerky or nuts. I know many people eat a cheese stick or something like that but I am allergic to dairy so that's basically out for me. If I do eat it dairy, I itch like crazy and it aggrevates my asthma.
Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
Marie

I don't have a number for you but I try and keep my carb number UNDER my protein number, for the most part. And then I stay away from white carbs completely (bread, pasta, rice) but that's just me.
I don't think it matters so much but the number of calories really is what you're looking for. You need to consume less calories than you burn..it sounds simple but you just have to lower the amount of calories to lower than what you burn. If you exercise, you'll burn more calories..

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!
Before Surgery: 214

When I was losing weight, my "magic numbers" were:
800 calories, 50% Protein, 30% Carb, 20% Fat.
Now that I am maintaining, my diet logs revealed the following:
1950 calories, 40% Protein, 40% Carb, 20% Fat.
The latter diet assumes 4 days of excercise, 2 of strength training and 2 of running 3 miles.
I generally always have a "TV snack" around 8pm. I like Popcorn (it's a whole grain) the best.
I would take a look at Clean Eating magazine. They have some nice 2 week meal plans.
