need some help
well i am 6 years out and i want to stop bake all the time yes i do eat it. how do i stop it? yes i bake with sugar. i am going to try and start doing right the first of the year. yes i know what to do but i just love my darn sweets. i am not exercising too cold to walk outside. i like to do some excise in the house. i dont drive so cant get somewhere to exercise. i am now 156 pounds. any advice? thanks, anita
Thank you Anita, for making me face up to my problem. I hope that telling all of us about your struggle, you will be inspired to get back on track.
When my band was unfilled, I was told by all my doctors to gain a little weight because when I went through chemo and radiation I would lose my appetite and too much weight. Whoops, DO NOT tell me it's OK to eat!! I have put on 15 pounds!! I'm still waiting for the 'loss of appetite'. I also love to bake, and did a lot during the holidays. I made stuff and put it in my freezer, put in my DIL's freezer and sent bunches home with my daughter. Of course, I also ATE lots of it. I also bake with the good stuff!
I have been trying to do my ellipticle a couple of times a day when I am home. But I am kinda weak, and my legs don't last as long as they used to. When I am at the Hope Lodge getting my radiation, I walk up and down the huge circular staircase instead of using the elevator.
I'm sure we BOTH know everything we can and should be doing to exercise, diet, etc. If you are like me you learned all that through the years of doing it off and on. The thing is actually DOING it.
So, now that I have told someone other than the face in the mirror, maybe I will actually feel accountable and stick to the plan!!
I KNOW that when all this is over, I can get a fill and get back on track. But at the rate I am eating, by Spring I'll have ruined months of work, and have to work months to get this extra off.

So I decided to do something else. I did laundry, I shampooed the rugs, I cleaned the toilets and tubs and showers, floors, changed all the bed linens...Then I decided to tackle the scrapbooking. You know, this fall I caught up FOUR years of photographs? I set out all my scrapbooking stuff on the counters in the kitchen (hint, you can't cook ANYTHING with that stuff on the counters!) and the table was occupied...cutting, pasting, sorting...picking stickers and embelishments...That worked for the afternoon. i packed up all the stuff I'd baked, and I mean ALL of it and gave it to my sister who was having a large dinner party at her house. It worked for me. I've run out of printed photos now so I'm going to go to walmart.com and upload my next year of photos.
Yes, I love to bake but I also have artistic things I can do. I have beading and sewing and cleaning and decorating...I think next spring I'll be out in the garden and doing some of that..I have my houseplants..trimming, grafting...taking cuttings..replanting..Oh, and I also decorate the pots, buying plain clay pots and paint them with acrylic paints...That and a 99 cent houseplant makes a great gift for someone and it's NOT cookies!
The simple answer was: do something else; anything else..Depending on the reasons why you are baking (creating, craving...) you need to find something in that direction. You can also aspire to switch all your sugar recipes to sugar free recipes...that's a noble endeavor...

The one thing I tell myself is this: When I had 100 pounds to lose I felt helpless I could not do it. Now I have 5 to lose. I absolutely CAN do it. We are not helpless, we don't have to be a victim. We DO have a choice. Even though we have a wonderful tool. We also have to make the choice. I'm choosing to keep this weight off.
WE CAN ALL DO IT.
As for the rest, I hear a lot of why you can't do something: Too cold, don't drive. What I hear is you saying "I can't excercise, my pinky hurts." In the end, there is no fate but that which you make. You don't need to drive: walking and running are free and don't need a vehicle. You don't need summer, that's what hats, gloves and mittens are for.
Ice and single digit temperatures are the only things that keep me on the ttreadmill, otherwise I like running outside the best, especially in Winter: it's easier because the air is more dense.
No more excuses...no waiting for the new year! I'll begin right now with a 30 minute workout.
Mind over Matter...and simply tired of trying to find a quick/easy/fast solution!
