aversion to meat

I'm about 2 1/2 yrs out and for the past year I can't stand meat.  If I go to a restaurant and it's put in front of me I'll eat it but only a bite or two and that's all I can force in to keep people off my back about not eating enough.

My weight is stable - I stay between 103-106 which puts my BMI just under 21.  I feel ok, energy is fine.  I get my protein from shakes, cheese, edamame, and greek yogurt and I'm usually getting between 60-80g per day.

I just can't stand meat.   I used to love meat.  What's the deal?

Anyone else experience this?

I found out there was a word for me: "Flexitarian"  To my surprise, that means over half my meals are meatless.  To be honest, its more like 75% but whatever.  Its not that I don't care for meat, its just that dense proteins are very hard for me to eat.  I'm also lazy and don't want to fight with my food at every meal so I go for greek yogurt, beans, etc.

If the weight is good, and the labs are good, and the energy is good, who cares?  Go have some cheese.

I like that!  I'm a Flexitarian.   Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I like meat okay...but sometimes I need it...especially if I am working out alot. It is harder to cook and I have to prepare it and make sure I chew really well....but I do most of the time. Do you mean all meat or just red meat? I have to make sure it is moist...but I thought the quality of protein in meat was better absorbed than soy protein. As long as you are healthy and have good labs....maybe Vitalady will chime in...

Feel better soon!

PS. I am having more stitches come to the surface from my LBL, did you have that?

Pretty much all meat.  I guess I won't worry about it too much.

Yes...I just had one pop out the other day in fact.  We bought a spa and after sitting in it a few nights the stitch worked it's way to the surface.  Took me a few days to be able to grab and cut but I finally got it.

Thanks!

June, I had one come to the surface a few months ago but now I have a whole line of them all around my back, side and half of my front!! I can't do them myself and some you can see and feel but they are still under neath the skin. Trying to get a referral back to wound care again and get them out.

Do you do nuts?? I do them almost everyday and like them...especially with chocolate!! Also they are my salt fix when I need one....but my body craves meat at times....I love my fruit and vegies...but I am a carnivore since WLS....

Never was a fan of meat, so much. Now? Even less. Rather fill up with veggies.

My meat is chocolate. No fuss, no muss. 180g today, every day.

Meat, now and then, when it hits me just right. I always said I'm right on the edge of being a veggie.

Flexatarian. Niiiiiiiiiiice.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I'm four years out and while I do still eat meat, I find at times I don't want to.  It isn't so much the taste or texture, it's that I just don't want to deal with the effort--lots of chewing--to eat it.  In looking at your protein list, it seems like you also prefer "softer" protein.

Looks like you're doing good though.
