wt loss goals - and how they change

my starting wt probably wasnt too much higher than yours - i had originally set my goal to be 135 - but, later changed it to 150 because i thought 135 would be too low for me
but, i would just like to see what it's like to wt 135 - i havent wt that since i turned 27 - maybe longer?  when my wt gets down to the mid 140s my friends and my husband say that my face looks "old" - they arent saying it to be mean - or discourage me - they are just honest - they all say i look better right at 150 or a little more - but, i struggle with these thoughts.

please share your experiences with this with me

PS      i wt 157.1 this morning - and honestly - sometimes - even though its only about 10 pounds more than where i would "like" to be - it seems overwhelming and like i am facing the mountain again - now - losing 10 is like i used to feel about losing 100

My surgeon didn't really ever set a goal...although towards the end of the first year he said the 'high' end of my weight range.  Well I'm 5'2'' so that's not very high...lol.

I set my own goal at 135...but once I hit around 150 and saw pics of myself....I didn't want to be any smaller than that.  I was wearing a size 6 and feeling great so I didn't want to pu**** just for the number on the scale.

I know what you mean about the 10 pound thing...I wonder why that is...I feel the same way.

I wouldn't listen to anyone when they say stuff like that...here's why:

I thought my goal was 150 and when I hit 146 I asked my surgeon. He told me that I could get down to 125. I honestly thought he was crazy but kept going. At 11 months I got down to 122 and he said I could stop. Alittle bump in the road with stress and I was down to 117..I settled down to 125..and right around there is where I stay. I stayed right there fluctuating up to 129 down to 126. After staying right at 128 for nearly a year my family said they were SO glad that I'd gained a couple of pounds...That made me angry because I hadn't put on an ounce! But there you have it. They don't really know. They thought I'd gained and I have not. I'm down to 126 and they still think I weigh 130...they don't really know at all.

When you get down to your goal, you can do what you want and if you do go up two pounds the family may just gush all over it like it's 10 pounds..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Originally I wanted to be BMI Normal (165) but after seeing photos of myself at around 210 I thought I was getting a little skeletal so I settled for 195 which put me under 200.  The Dr. still thinks even 195 is too low but I'm happy.

So now I'm "overweight" at 195 +/- 5

i guess it just depends on the individual - after looking at your photos i think you look quite slender and agree that 165 would be way way skinny - and unhealthy looking

Kim:

I am also at 150 and would like to get to 135.  I agree that at 150 I look good, and everyone keeps saying stop losing.  But I still struggle with my old goal, like you.

I am grateful to be where I am, and if this is the end of the road of my losing, then I have to be okay with it.  I am almost 19 months out. I would still really love to get there.

I can have goals, right?  Are they unrealistic?  I hope not.

I know what you are saying...I dont want to look old.  If I look better & healthier at 150, 150 it will be!

Hi Kim,

When I was in my 20s I attended WW and they put my goal weight at 147 (I'm 5'7.5"). I now keep my weight between 140-145. Today, after several days stranded in a mountain cabin for 5 days, my weight is 146, so time to tighten up a bit. This morning I looked in the mirror and like the way my body looks at this weight more than 140, but I'm so afraid of my weight creeping up that I'll work hard to get it to my comfort zone (about 142) which is where I have kept it for 1.5 years.

It's so hard to realize our "perfect" weight. My husband commented this morning that he thinks I'd look better adding another 10 lbs. but realizes that I'm truly afraid to gain the extra weight.

Good luck trying to find that "perfect number".

My original goal weight was 159, which at 5'7" gave me a BMI of 24.9, in the "normal" range.  I'm now at 138, with a BMI of 22.  I like the way my body looks now, but my face looks saggy and sickly.  I definitely think it looked better when I was 159.  So now I'm also looking into plastic surgery to fix my face....lol.
