losing my grip....

Hi,
I am writing for some help.  I have read posts in the past of people who had gastric bypass and somehow regained the weight.  I looked at them as foolish...how could they not treasure the second chance they got?  How could they eat too much and gain weight again..?
Now, here I come...having stretched my pouch...having gained 40 pounds, feeling like a miserable failure.
I want to turn this around before I gain it all back....I have tried the Pouch Test...it helps but it is hard for me to just do liquids.  I can do it if it is the best way to go.
Ideas please.  I have fallen down on my exercise....I was so good at that...now I am a mess at walking.
I sound like a whiney baby, and maybe I am, but please give me some ideas....I am so lost.
Thanks and flame me if it will do some good.

Betty, are you being followed by your WL surgeon? I hope that you will seek him or her out and get checked out to make sure nothing is wrong with your pouch and also have labs done. If everything checks out then start to journal your food intake and make adjustments , make sure your protien intake is 60-100 grams a day, if you are drinking with meals stop.... and get rid of simple carbs, no sugar, white flour ect. keep to whole grains and fresh fruit and vegetables. Start like in  the beginning and make small goals for your self with the exercise and increase as you can tolerate.

You can do it.

All my best

No flaming here...Encouragement is what you need (after you've checked out any problems medically, definitely!) Then start with where you ARE...journal what you are eating and be honest about it...look at how much exercise you are getting...and then change something. Not something big but something that you can stick with. Take a look at how much of what you are eating isn't needed and what you need to get rid of...If you have issues with addiction to something... Get into a local support group too. That's very helpful..

We're here for encouragement...all of us.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I'm very sorry to hear about your gain.  I had my surgery in December of 2005 and am doing very well maintaining.  However, I eat NO refined carbs -- no pasta, rice, bread, crackers.  I don't eat potatoes or rice, etc.  I'm convinced that it's the bad carbs that do us in.  Are you staying away from carbs that aren't vegetables and fruit?  I'm curious.  There seems to be a common theme with weight gain and carbs.

Best of luck to you and if we can be of any help, please let us know.  You can turn this around.

Betty,

I just came to this board for this very reason.  And when I read your post I said to myself,  "Man this is me to a T".  I have gained 14 lbs back, eating the carbs, and no exercising what so ever!!
I too was pretty good at exercising at first but now it's like Oh I'll do it tomorrow well of course it never comes.

I am soooooooo scared to gain my weight back too.  This is ALL I think about.  Then when I get depressed about it~  I EAT!!!  Oh this crazy cycle.

Thank you for your post and I will pray that you will have the strength to overcome this and get back on track.

Blessings

Betty,

Thank you for your honesty.

My surgery was 09/06. I did not reach my goal but had gained 19lbs and now have lost 5. It is upsetting to me to know I went through not only the surgery but also the expenses and did not accomplish my goal,

Have you looked at the Becks Diet Solution? It may help you with bringing back some of the positive thoughts that you had that brought you to your goal. Not sure if your interested but though I would mention it.

I am still in search for my new mindset. I guess I am whinny also. Oh, yea I knew that.(ha-ha)

I hope you are back on track and enjoying your journey!

I'm over 5 years out and dealing with the same thing.  While cleaning my craft room today, I came acrossed the Pouch Rules for Dummies.  Boy, have I been doing things wrong.  You might want to google on that and read it.  It might help.  I'm going to really try to follow that.  Good luck!

You are echoing my mind!!!  I had surgery 09/05/03 and in all honestly, I had amazing results.  A non veggie carb never touched my lips until I the end of 2005 I had hand surgeries x 3 for a two year period and I swear they were my downfall.  I lost a total of 237 pounds and have gained back 45 since the surgeries.  My exercise is intermittent at best and I feel like a failure at eating.  I struggle with not really being hungry, I dont snack regularly to keep things even keeled and then I am STARVING later.  I just feel so lost and overwhelmed, I do NOT want to go back to the woman who weighed over 400 pounds.  I cant wrap my head around how to start all over again.
