Gallbladder issues

I am almost four years out(RNY). Lately I have had a severe increase in dumping symptoms. Not just when I eat something I know I shouldn't, but every single time I eat. Runs, puking, all of it. I also have had severe cramping in my right upper quadrant.
It got so bad that I had to go to the ER on Friday night. They assumed it was my gallbladder since I had a CT that showed sludge about a month ago. I went through the whole battery of blood work, U.S., HIDA scan, etc. Everything came out normal, except for the HIDA scan, which was one point over dysfunctional. So they sent me home to wait until I get sick again.
Any thoughts ot words of wisdom? This is so frustrating. I don't have time to be sick!
Thanks!
Hannah
the symptoms of runs and puking sound like celiac to me...But I tend towards that anyway since I have it in my family...Could be food allergies too...same symptoms.
As for not having time to be sick...is there ever a GOOD time? Don't skimp on taking care of yourself...and do it right away because it could just get worse.
A friend of ours had issues like that, two years they dinked around with it and he finally (after losing 60 pounds he couldn't afford to lose) they did surgery. He came through the surgery alright but was too weak to recover. He died 4 days after they sent him home from the hospital. He was 51 years old...
Don't skimp on taking care of yourself..If one doctor doesn't satisfy you, keep getting other doctors until you know for SURE what it is...

Well, I have the band not the RNY. But I also had gallbladder problems.
I was afraid the stuff I was experiencing was band related and didn't want to deal with it. I finally went in and had an ab ultrasound and was told I had 'multiple gallstones' and I should have that taken care of.
Well, I didn't have the time. My Mom got sick, I spent about 6 weeks in TX as she passed away. All the stuff I had to deal with after. Back to TX for probate, etc.
Finally got home and life a little back to normal when I had 2 very severe, very painful gallbladder attacks. Finally went to see a surgeon and he removed my gallbladder. GUESS WHAT!!! That gallbladder had a cancerous tumor in it!! Doctor said it had probably been growing a year or so. After the gallbladder removal, I had to have a liver resection and they took out a bile duct and replaced it with part of my intestine. BTW, the surgeon was very happy I had the band and not the RNY because it would have been much more difficult to find some intestine to use to replace my bile duct. Two weeks after surgery I was back in the hospital with an abcess in there where they dug out part of my liver. I am now home with a drain tube I have to flush every 8 hours. Oh the joy!
The good news is, there were no cancer cells found in the liver tissue or bile duct they removed.
I virtually 'lost' the entire month of September with surgeries and hospital stays. It is very hard to schedule when you can be sick. Fate sometimes takes a stand and you do what you have to do.
If I had had the gallbladder taken care of way back, would that have eliminated the tumor? If I had waited 2 weeks longer, would the cancer have spread to my liver and other parts of my body?
How do we tell our families that we didn't have time to be sick, but now we are dieing? Luckily, my cancer is gone, but it could have been so much worse.
GET TO THE DOCTOR. DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO, NOW!
This is the first time I am posting. I am 3-1/2 years out. I had the same symptoms as you had for 8 months following the surgery. I was throwing up for 10 hours at a time and dumping as well. I had gall bladder surgery 8 months after the RNY and was still throwing up . . . not as much, but still doing it. Five months after the gall bladder surgery, I went back into the hospital and had my stoma dialated from 11 cm. to 14 cm. That seemed to do the trick! I still throw up at times, but not near to what was happening before.
I was told that a lot of people who have gastric bypass surgery have gall bladder problems afterwards. Anyhow, I just wanted to tell you my saga for whatever it is worth. Good luck, Hannah! I hope it straightens out for you.
