BEWARE! The holiday grazing season has begun

Yestereday as I was ripping off my September desktop calendar, I was struck with the harsh reminder that October begins my hardest post-op maintanence season...Starting today or possibly Monday, candy dishes filled with "little" tastes of candy will pop up on desks everywhere, the candies will be replaced with snack-mixes around thanksgiving and then the seasonal round of x-mas cookies...Tempation will present itself at every turn and this far out from surgery, I can tolerate more real sugar than in the early years...These days one little mini reeses/snickers/milkyway/etc, a small palm of chex mix or one cookie will not provoke an attack of dumping and herein lays the problem for me with this time of year...

SO, today I started my day with a resolution to not let all the temptation suck me in, I know myself, there will be slips off the path...The trick for me is to keep the treats to a VERY occasional minimum...

If you too struggle with this time of year, join me in resolution...We worked hard to achieve success and reach our current place, let's keep it together...

Best wishes to everyone

I set out a dish of small candies today for work...For some reason, as I watch others enjoy it, it doesn't have that much of a draw on me...like it would if I was at home, late at night...
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Unfortunately it's not MY dish that presents the problem & yes I have my own stash of treats in my office, still struggle with passing up ALL the others...

The people at work call me "The Candy Man" because I have a candy dish.

It has my favorites and, to be honest, I don't snack all that much.  I think the reason for this is the fact that the candy is always there.  I can have some now, later, tomorrow.  It isn't that special and so there isn't any abstinence rebound tendency.

WALKING, great idea...Now that I go to the gym I've gotten out of the habit of walking my dogs ( so easy to open the door to the fenced yard  )...Anyway, a 15+ minute walk every day including the gym ones would be good for ALL of us...

Thanks

Hello Alesia, This time of year sure is difficult with all the tempting "goodies" around. I started last week journaling my daily food intake to get back on track. Since I stopped journaling about a year or so ago I have put on some pounds and I now realize that is one way to help me get back on track. So far so good.

I am determined to keep out of my house any candy or sweet that will call my name. I am trying to come up for a plan for Halloween, I don't get very many kids that come to my house, so maybe if I give out some treats I will have to get ones that I do not enjoy or desire,  that way I won't be tempted. I think I will get my grandson something non food wise for Halloween this year too.

I am not working, so I do not have to contend with  office treats  tempting me, thank goodness. I too, can tolerate sugar and don't have a reaction to it very often. I wish I never tested the waters on that front. I have to ignore all the commercials and stuff for sale in the stores. I should buy a pair of blinders to wear.

I guess I will take one day at a time and if I should stumble and I probably will, then just get up and start over again right then. We can never give up, we owe it to ourselves. We are worth the effort.

Sher

Wow, do I hear ya! Last year I gained 10lbs between halloween and New Years. To be honest with you, I'm truly surpirsed it was only 10lbs with all the crap that I ate! And then it took me 3mths to work it all back off. So, this year I will try to do better. I don't have the candy dish @ work problem, but I have 2 boys that have the stuff around and I do enjoy junk food! I'm trying to keep my focus and make good choices most of the time~an occasional candy is fine, but eating one here and another there throughout the day is NOT ok for me~it leads me to a VERY slippery slope! All we can do is the best we can do so make the most of every day and things will work out A-OK :)

This is the most challenging few months of the year for us, for sure.  I have not done well with maintaining over the last 4-5 years (I did great for the first 2-3 years post-op).  In fact I've gained about 50 lbs.  I've made repeated attempts to turn it around but nothing has worked so far.  Yesterday I started the 5 Day Pouch Test and I'm determined to stick with it this time.  I actually lost 2 pounds which I'm sure is purely liquid.  I just hope I can stick with it, and then follow it up with low carb, high protein eating to lose these 50 lbs (O-M-G, that sounds like so much to lose!).

So I'm joining you in your resolution, but taking it further to resolving to lose these 50 lbs!

Betsy
