Gained back almost 20 lbs from my lowest

I had my surgery August 2004, and went from 240 lbs to 123 at my lowest.  I hit 40, had thyroid surgery and a hysterectomy and all hell broke loose!

I am now fluctuating between 140 and 145.

Any advice?

Alicia,
Have you tried going back to protein? Are you eliminating carbs?  Getting all vitamins & supplements? Taking Omega 3? Doing some kind of exercise? Have you tried the 5 day pouch test? Drinking enough water?

I have had hysterctomy and have hashimoto thyroid and take med for this..I just turned 60, had surgery around same time as you but not gained back at all. I find if I start to crave foods I can not eat I go back to protein drinks for 3 to 5 day & this gets me back on track.

I visited the 5 day pouch test website.  I am going to start that tomorrow to see how that works.  I am a carb-o-holic, but I have been working on getting more protein and less carbs.

You are probably right on about the protein drinks.  I have some protein powder in my pantry, so I will stick with that for the next couple of days and see how it works.

I do take a multivitamin and Omega 3, but it has been hit or miss.  The problem is that I have to take my thyroid meds, I have meds for my GERD,  and take an antianxiety/antidepressant.  It seems like I am always taking meds, and I can't take iron and calcium with my thyroid meds.

I guess I just need a kick in the pants.  lol

Thanks!

I don't want to sound insensitive but this is the reason I read and don't post often because people know in their heart what they need to do but don't.

You don't need  a kick in the pants, you need to stop sabotaging yourself. Making excuses doesn't help, having supplements in closet doesn't work if you don't use them.
If you are eating fried foods this causes GERD. Carbs & fat=weight gain. Unless it is good fats which accelerate weight loss.

You can take any supplements with thryroid meds, you just need to take them 4 hrs apart.
I also take levothroid first thing when I get out of bed. 4 hrs later I start my first dose of vitamins etc...been doing this 29 yrs. Has never interfered with thyroid med. Antidepressant/antianxiety med (Prozac) was what caused 3 yrs of obesity for me, couldn't loose no matter what I tried so I had surgery...never was over weight till I went on & off this drug.

My daughter called me about a yr ago so upset she gained 30 lbs in 5 months being on Prestigue before that it was another one, prior another one. She lost all weight with each baby, was stick thin and she couldn't get back down after she started these meds. I told her to drop them and do Omega 3 with dr's help and she lost it....she had to take 2000mg 4x day to start then drop when she was feeling oka to 3 grams a day.. Helped her mood, anxiety and is now stable with weight. Prior to her actually taking it she kept telling me I have it, well she needed to take it not have it on a shelf & most important is at the end of the day, how many calories did you eat.  Talk your dr or do some research online.

You are right, of course.  I think I got spoiled thinking that the surgery would be a panacea for all my eating problems.

I did very well today.  I have had only grilled chicken breasts and asparagus, so far today.  I am comitted to not eat any complex carbs, and making sure that I exercise at least 3 mins a day.

It is interesting what you said about Prestique.  That is the medicine they just put me on a couple of months ago.  Since I have been on that medicine, I have gained the most of my weight.  So you think that the Omega 3 helps enough to counter the anxiety and depression?  I would like to think that I would loose weight once I got off the Prestique.

I also remembered to take my vitamins today.  Tomorrow I will pick up some more vitamins and Omega 3.

Thanks for giving it to me straight.  :)

Please tell me the story on Omega 3.  I have some and take occasionally, but have not thought about it icw gastic bypass.  How much should I take and what is the connection to wls?

My story is similar to Alica.  I am shorter and older.
I take no prescription meds except B12 injections,  take multi vitamins, calcium with D, iron ****asionally) and biotin.

Thanks for your help.

Hey lady, send me that info on the Omega 3, I'm being lazy I don't want to research this morning.

I've had some regain too (12 lbs) and I keep losing 5 of it and gaining those 5 back.  I'm probably going to end up with a hysterectomy in the next couple of months, I know I need to do it I'm in PMS mode every other week.

I'm 5'5".  I got down to 123-125 as well and I didn't look good.  It's just the facts.  I had bounce back and went from 140-150.  I look best at 145-150.  I've been sick and have lost 25 pounds.  I look terrible again.

Sometimes bounce back is what your body really needs.

I don't know many people who lost to such a low weight and maintained it.  Most all have had a bounce back that they realy needed b/c they look better.

Now, my size 4s are falling off and my face is way to thin.  In addition, my skin looks so much better when I have more weight on me -- not as saggy.  Now, I look like I need a severe butt lift -- thigh lift...everything.

I don't look that way at 145-150.

Just some food for thought.

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.
