High A1c @ 4 years out anyone??

Haven't been around for a while, but was in the hospital last night for chest pain, NO heart attack, but don't know what caused it either.  But anyway they did and A1c and mine was 7, I never was diabetic before my bypass.  LIke most of us I'm a bad grazer.  I learned a long time ago if I eat too much sugar or carbs I would get reactive hypoglycemia, so I just graze.  I've gained back about 20 from my low weight but that doesn't really bother me because I think I look better than I was at my lowest.

My question, has anyone seen a diabetic diet for people after bypass.  The diet they gave me in the hospital was still more than I can eat.  Also, it seemed like way more carbs than I can eat at a meal.

Any ideas?????

Why would you say you are diabetic? a "normal" A1C is less then 7 but if you have issues with your blood sugers that would explain the 7.
As for the diabetic diet, i would recommend you see a diabetic educator or at LEAST a dietician... explain you need to graze and why... Im sure they would figure out how many carbs per meal would work for you...

Good luck

Karen, thanks for the reply... Turns out my A1c is 5.1, all the A1c testing for the last couple of weeks has been wrong.  I am raising 10 kinds of heck.  It's bad enouh for me, but what about folks that spent $100 that really didn't have it to spend.  All the folks whose docs are telling them they haven't been in control when they know they have, folks who are now taking more meds.... I am livid about this and it happened at the hospital I work at....If they don't fix this ....look out.....

I spent $100 and 5 days of testing, trying to figure it out when all my results were normal. I even ate regular ice cream one night, my BS barely went to 140 @ 1/2 hour and back to normal within an hour....I couldn't figure out what the heck happened.  The next day I got the new results from a different lab.  Also, all thyroid, B12, etc tests normal.

Again, thanks for the reply
