7 YRS POST OP: Sometimes Life just Happens and you lose control!
Donna, I have a very large support group of friends here in NYC who have had surgery. I have several that still look amazing 6, 7 yrs out. But, I have a lot of friends that gained back every lb and then some.
Back In October, I joined Jenny Craig for my 20yr HS reunion, I lost 20lbs in 6 wks, I felt great. I stopped going bc Im a full time grad student and couldnt justify the expense.
I dont know what to tell you bc Im battling it too. I do know that my dtr doesnt shorten the intestines as much as others and some say thats why Im not as successful but others who have used him are still stick thin. I dont know.
I do, whenever I get down on myself about my weight remember one thing my surgeon told me pre-op, this surgery isnt about how much weight you lose, its about making you healthier and more active. I try to live that.

Hi Heather,
I will be 7 years PO on 8-22 and I have an appointment with my WLS on 8-31... He's gonna kick my bootie! I've gained about 30lbs back and can't get them off. I know what my problem is, I just can't get it under control... So I was happy to see that I'm not the only "old-timer" here with this problem.
I am a 911 dispatcher, work 12-hour shifts sitting at the comptuer during the night and graze... I drink diet soda and graze to stay awake. I also need to get off my duff and walk or something. But I'm sooo tired by the time I get off work... UGH! I had to have a hysterectomy 3 years ago and think the hormones I have to take now have something to do with the gain (but it's not entirely to blame). Anyway, I'm 5'10" and my highest weight was 425, 395 the day of WLS and my low was 177. My family and close friends told me that 177 was too thin so when I gained that first 10 lbs they all thought I looked great! Boy oh boy would I love to get back to 187! Anyway, I'm on a mission, I don't know how I'm going to do it but I am determined to get back there.
Anyway, Good luck with getting your weight back under control - I miss those honeymoon years too! Keep in touch if you'd like to, I don't come on too often but will get messages.
Sheryl

You had surgery a week after me (8/15/02). I havent seen my dtr in maybe a yr, or 2. Well, I've seen him as I run into him walking around nyc and we chat on Facebook but I havent seen him for an appt since 5/07. I need to go see him to get his thoughts.
I hear ya about the grazing and the soda. Im trying to ween myself back off soda. I stopped cold turkey in 2002 the night b4 surgery and was fine woithout it for 6 or those 7 yrs, but, lately, yummo!
I bet those hormones have something to do with it, I've heard similiar tales.
Good luck....
Heather
