Every time after I eat......run to bathroom
Hi,
I had lap band surgery in March 2007 and since then have lost about 30 lbs - could be more, but don't exercise enough. The last few months - almost after EVERY meal, it goes right thru me. At first after surgery, had the other problem - constipation. Has anyone else had the same experience? My worst worry is perhaps - you know - when habits change it could be cancer. And it is not due to eating junk. Am starting to feel very concerned, not to mention the inconvenience of not knowing when it will hit. What do you think? Thanks. Dianne
You better go to the doctor and find out what is up. The reason why I say that is because Celiac does the same thing...worse than cancer IMO...It's a reaction to gluten in your food. Your celia in your intestines literally lay down in response to gluten in your food and everything rushes through. You lose shocking amounts of weight and you can really get ill.
Hopefully, that's not the problem. Get it checked, soon.

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Just to let you know, Celiac is hereditary. It's a latent, auto immune disease that will be in your system for years and not present at all until you have a shock to your system. I didn't even understand that I had it in my family until I started researching some funny symptoms. A friend of ours has it but when my Aunt and cousin said they have it...I got scared. It's a bigger lifestyle change than WLS! And the more you stay away from wheat and gluten the worse the reaction can be when you actually do eat it (even by accident)...In my case my allergist thought the shock to the system was the WL surgery. Turns out that I could still have it but it's not totally diagnosed without a biopsy of the lower bowel..If mine gets worse, it will have to be addressed but it's subsided now (when I stay away from bread, pasta, all that good stuff that I'm suppose to stay away from anyway).
Good luck.
Good luck.

My daughter was just diagnosed with Crohn's this week. She had to have a colonoscopy and testing for lactose intolerance. Then they did the upper GI and thus the diagnosis. She was miserable with the food going right through her. It's controllable with medications and certainly better than a cancer diagnosis, which is the first thing they ruled out after the colonscopy.
Get to the doctor! It may be something simple, but even Crohn's can be very serious if not corrected/controlled.
Good luck and best wishes
