8 years out and regaining

I just passed by eight year anniversary.  I lost 140 pounds originally and have regained 30 pounds in the past year.  I don't follow all the rules, but haven't for 7 years and can't figure out while all of a sudden I'm gaining.  I have tried the pouch test and it is still its original size.  My labs are a mess, I have to get iron infusions every 6 months, and my surgeon left town 6 weeks after my surgery.  I don't  know where to turn.

Ok, first thing you need to do is find a doctor who knows what your WLS is and how it works.  Whether it's your PCP or a new surgeon (and I'm sure there are some in IL) you need some guidance now.  You need to speak to his/her nutrit. to put you back on the right path of eating and supplements for your surgery.

If your labs are 'a mess' & you need iron infusions you know things aren't as they should be.  You need to be proactive and get some help.  I'm glad you posted here because this is the first step in how you can turn your health around.

As for the gaining, I'm not sure regarding your surgery but I guess if you don't follow the rules (not all the time but a good deal of the time) it may eventually come back to bite you.

Please look for a WLS surgeon in your area who can help you out.

Best of luck.

Thanks for your reply, my PCP follows my labs, and other than my ferritin, they have been good until about 6 months ago.  He recently sent me to an endrocrinologist who but me on 50,000 u of Vit D weekly, but otherwise was more interested in getting out of the room than talking about what was going on.  I see an hemotologist and have been getting iron for 5 years as I am unable to absorb any type of iron they prescribe.  I live in a very rural area so there is basically no  availability of health care professionals that work in bariatrics.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Have you gone on the Illinois board to check out any surgeons that are close to your area?  How close are you to Chicago, University of Illinois?

Any doctor that is more interested in getting out of the room is not a doctor you should have to put up with.  You deserve much better.

I know you are in a rural area but how far away are you from a major city?  I am from Wisconsin (between Milwaukee and Madison).  If your PCP follows your labs and you only would see the surgeon on an annual basis, maybe the two could work together in handling your care.

My surgeon is from a different group than my PCP but he shares blood work and other issues with the surgery as well as my before and after pics on my 1st year surgiversary with my PCP.  I had to see my PCP after my surgeon appointment and it was a good thing he sent them--my PCP almost didn't recognize me - lol.

Hi,
I am 6 years out and had started gaining also. The problem I had was know what kind of diet to go on. 3 weeks ago I started weigh****chers online. It is $17.00 a month and gives you a points that it keeps track of how many you have left when you log your food, it also gives you and exercise tracker and a weigh in day. It has helped me to eat right and be better.

If God sends you to it. He will get you through it.
