everyone I am so glad that I found this site I have been  on this site all morning and I find it to be motivating. I want to know the recipe for protein coffee? I had RNY August 9Th 2004 and coming up on my fifth year anniversary next month. I have been struggling with regaining some of the wt back first it was 10 pounds now it's 20. I do want to make goal before the year is out but it seems so hard to even get the first 10 lbs off. I do work out. lately I've had some set backs with working out however, I did go to the gym this morning I took a spin class, worked out on the elliptical, and walked on the tread mill. Another problem I have is getting my 8 glasses of liquids in along with consuming too many carbs (white carbs). I start every morning off with a great start by evening I end up eating chips, or sweets. As you can see I really need some help!

i'm kinda new but my guess is at 5 years you need more complex carbs through the day so you won't be craving them so much at night and eating the "bad stuff."  Make sure you are restricting earlier in the day to set you up to binge later.  I also would get the chips and sweets OUT of the house, or out of YOUR reach anyway.  out of sight, out of mind, helps me.  if i know they are there then they tend to prey on my mind.

cleopatra_nik wrote some great stuff about this kind of eating on the RNY board not long ago.  She talked about not just behavioral changes, but taking the time to reflect and figure out what was behind her "nervous eating" behaviors.

also i know for me, once i start eating simple carbs and trigger foods like crunchy chip-like things, they set up their own biochemical urges.  the only way to stop is to STOP.  you really CANNOT eat just one and you have to stop justifying the first bite in your own mind.  if you can find a way to moderate, fine, but that's not what you are doing, right?  the only way you can end up snacking is if you eat the first one... so don't eat the first one.  deep breathing, reaching out for support, finding distractions, going for  a walk, stretching - wahtever -  all ways to deal with cravings.  but the most important way to minimize cravings is to make that internal commitment.  the minute you get up on the fence, they will come roaring back to life.

RNY 6/16/09 - Last weighed 10/27/2011 weighed 151 lost 52 pounds  66% toward personal goal  of 125, six pounds from unofficial unpretentious goal of 145lbs......basically very happy.   boo-rah, RNY!

Like elly posted...simple white carbs are evil when you have an addiction. I do have an addiction to them myself. I know once i start those things, I just can't stop so I stay as far away from them as I can possibly be...the first week is the hardest but it gets easier after that.

I limit my sugar and white carbs so that when I do have those things, I am super sensitive to them and dump...I also drink more than 8 glasses. I drink up to 16 glasses or 120 ounces..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Thanks Dawn! you are so right about white carbs being evil. like I mentioned I do good all day then something triggers at night I start craving the carbs. I'm going to try very hard tonight to not give in to the temptation. How long did it take for you to be able to drink 16 glasses of liquids in one day?

Hi Nana Nae,

Others have already posted good suggestions on how to jumpstart your loss again and combat the evil  carb monster - I'm currently working hard to evict him myself and have been "white" de-carbing for over a week...

As to your questions on the protein coffee, I know there are probably a few variations, but here is mine - I do prefer my coffee light with creamer so this one works well for me...

BIG mug - mine is 14oz :  add 3.5 oz OH yeah RTD ( I use both vanilla & choc )... other sweetener as is your preference ( I use splenda )...zap it in the micro 30 sec ( so it all stays HOT )...Then top the cup up with coffee from the pot...

The OH yeah has 55 cals, 2 fat, 1 carb and 8 prot for this amount, plain coffee cals are negligable so all together about 60-65 cals a cup and I feel better about drinking it with the added protein benefits...

BTW, I have also added Acheive One RTD as my creamer ( various flavors )...It is even lower in cals, but has less protein...

You did it once on an even grander scale, you can do it again - We both can...

One of my local groceries stores, Harris Teeter, carries it - GNC also sells it  ( in singles so you don't have to pay for a whole case of something and not like it ) and also on-line ( on-line I've only seen by the case )...

Hope you like it

I make protein coffee by pouring about 1/2 cup coffee adding Splenda and 1% milk then stir in one serving protein powder, then fill the rest of the way with hot coffee.  Sometimes if you try to just stir in the protein if the coffee is too hot it might clump, whereas if you add a little milk it cools it off just enough so the protein doesn't clump.  I think they say if it is over 130 degrees it might clump.  Hope this helps!
