Tailbone Trauma

Hello all.  I am out of RNY surgery about 14 months now and I have a question for you veteran wls patients.  What do you do for your tailbone!?!  It has ached for months now but two weekends ago I slammed it into the ground going down an inflatable water slide.  It has caused unbearable pain since.  I already tried the MD route and was told that there is nothing they can medically do for a tailbone except suggest I take NSAIDs.  Well, that doesn't help my RNY stomach.  So I figured my next hope was to get advice from those of you who may live with this everyday.  Help!!!

Last year I fell down , straight down on the kitchen floor onto my tailbone, when I was weak from the flu coming on. I had to buy a pillow that has the section where the tailbone rests cutout and used it all the time, sitting at home, driving, etc. Unfortunately the only thing that helped was time to let the bruise subside and it took a few months. Sorry for your pain, I truly sympathize!

I use padded undies. It is a fake butt with lots of padding. It helps me when I sit a lot.

I watched a program about a girl who actually had to have the end of her tailbone removed because it stuck out. Apparently your tail bone extends when you gain a bunch of weight, naturally. like your sturnum too. It's to sort of balance your weight out and make it easier to balance. When you lose the weight fast, like we do..the tailbone is still hanging out there with no flesh around it to protect it. It's suppose to get better but it takes a LONG time.

There are things that can be done for tailbones that stick out...the MD was wrong about that..Get a second opinion before you feel like you should just deal with it. There are donuts and pillows but if it's injured, there is more that you can do other than NSAIDS...

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I've had tailbone pain since about 9 months post op. It is not constant, but flairs up ever so often.  The only thing that has helped are those ****yx cushions.  I have one in my office, one in the car and one at home....

I use the standard donut pillows - made some nice covers - and they help a lot - my tailbone and my back.  They are cheap - and inflatable.
The other pillows are great - but a bit more expensive.

2 years out from surgery, i went rollar skating and broke my ARSE! I have never had a broken bone and the pain was excruitiating, i got sweaty, plae shakey and thought i might vomit. I couldn't sit on itat all. i went and had my arse x-rayed. Talk about embarrassing. There was nothing to do but surgery. No thanks, i'll pass on that. I bought a donut pillow at the drug store and used it for over a year. Finally i can sit, but it still gets sore.

Peace and Blessings, Melinda
