Steadily Gaining Weight

Hey there
Just thought I would see whats new with everyone looks the same which is good and not so good.  I have been steadily gaining weight back for over a year now.  I now wear a size 12 and wigh 143lbs.  I am definitely a compulsive eater not that I doubted  it for a minute its just that the scale proves it consistently.  I am still exercising though not daily and I still am consistently watching my food but mostly the food wins out.
On a more positve note my cousin who had his WLS a year before me is doing wonderfully and has not gained a pound back.  He is the only person who I have met who has has been successful at keeping his weight off since surgery.  I did meet some folks at conferences who were doing real well.   I hope to meet some more people at the conference in June in Chicago.  Anyone going to that one by the way?   So I am really glad he is doing so well it gives me a lot of hope and I hope it lets you all know it can be done after 5 years out of surgery.  Take care Susie T.

My two favorite WLS sayings apply here:

1)  A lot of this job is mental
2)  There is no fate but that which we make.

It's not like the weigh gain fairies visit you in the night.  We already know the reason for the weight gain and how to correct it (eat less, move more).  The question is what you plan to do about it.  I like Yoda's line for Star Wars as well: "Do...or do not, there is no try"

I might be at the conference in June.  I'm not sure what I would gain from going at the moment.

I love Yoda...It's hard but you still have to do, not try.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Susana,
Oh, girl!!!! I feel your pain. I've cried out for help in every way I know. This steady gaining, seems bigger, more over powering than anything I can handle. I've been hopeful, sad, disappointed, angry, worried, ashamed...... I can not for the life-of-me, it seems, get back on track and stay there long enough to see a difference. I can councel someone else perfectly, but I can not take my own advice. I've made the horrible decision to eat stuff like candy, cake and ice cream, I do not dump... Ok. I'm one year from you... My GBP was Dec. 1, 2005... I'm 5 feet 2 inches tall. I got down to 133... stayed there for the longest time, My all time goal is 128 lbs, Today I am 159......... JUst 2 weeks ago I was 156...... My highest wt. on the day of my GBP was 284.....
I so admire people like Dawn and Special K.... they so faithfully record their food on this blog, their weigh seems to stay low and level, I'm so proud of them. I'm with you, Susana.
You Take Care... Kathy

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone *****sponded to my post "STeadily gaining Weight".  I guess I am not the only one out there but like I said I am gonna find out what my cousin does to keep his weight off he has not gained a pound back since his surgery six years ago.  When I find out how he manages I will post it.  I know it's not rocket science but every little bit helps.  Thanks again.  susie T

Susana, want you to know that you aren't alone in your struggles.  This past year has been somewhat of a struggle for me also, the past few months I've been really upset that I can get back to eating well for long periods of time.  It's definitely an emotional eating thing, not true hunger.

Here are a couple of other groups on OH you might be interested in.  One is Overcoming Binge Eating and the Back on Track group.  I have signed up for both but haven't committed to regular posting, I need to become more active on those, I do lur****assionally.

I'm 6 lbs above my goal weight, but 11 above my comfort weight that I stayed at for almost 2 years.  I feel miserable and my clothes are tight, I'm not willing to buy new clothes right now because of fear of filling those too; I need the discomfort to hopefully give me some encouragement.

good morning
i had my surgery on 10/3/06 and i am slowly starting to gain my weight back i have gaind about 15lbs.  i go to my group every month but as you must know that they do not accomadate the people that are 2years or more out i feel they need to have special meetings for us graduates because we can eat alot more now this week i called my dr. office and asked if we could weight in once a month or weekly i need to be accountable and they said they would have to get back to me they focus too much on the newebee's they can't eat much for the 1st 9 months they have 4 meetings a month and the graduates will not have a meeting u ntil 9/09 i think that is bad.  i know what i have to do i am gonna do the 3 day pouch test starting tuesday.  this is so hard i have always been a nite time eater and i am slowly getting back to my bad habits.I hope you are successful we just need to get back on track take care .

people here are either in the same boat OR never reached goal OR feel that they are losing control.

No judgment, just pulling together for a common goal.

My voice will always ask:
were you transected? which doc? which surgery type?

what was your eating and supplementation plan? have you been following it?

have you been scoped? Got heartburn? feel full after eating? how much over how much time?

In other worse, while a broken surgery can make you lose your resolve to eat "right", however you define that, you sorta can't win with a surgery that isn't there any more, right?
