Not the Same Dawn

I never was a breakfast eater either before surgery but I found that my blood sugar was so low when I woke up in the mornings, especially without coffee (no coffee post surgery was the rule until I was a year out). So I tried Kashi Sticks and Things cereal...the cold cereal thing made me even sicker so I found malto meal with added protein powder..that is what started it. regular malto meal with chocolate protein and soy milk...yummy stuff. Then malto meal got to me, I did grits with butter and vanilla protein. Not too great. But then I found tvp and it goes so well cooked into oatmeal (alittle nutty, same texture)..I've been stuck on that for some time. I even have to have that breakfast before we leave to head into town to go have breakfast with friends. So it's my FIRST breakfast on the weekends and then I have a SECOND breakfast later. LOL.

But I'm going to ask everyone about breakfast for a while to see if I can figure some common ground.

I just have to get my head into grits as a savory meal thing...I see grits and it (in my mind) turns into malto meal...add butter and splenda and I'm there. LOL. dh won't even TRY grits now. He says the one night he spent in jail, they gave him grits for breakfast and it was NASTY..oh well, I get it all for me!

Shrimp-n-grits, its definately a southern thing and whoooweee they are lip lickin good...Last night the place we went to does them LowCountry style which means they have a thick base roux like Louisiana gumbo and its spicy and loaded with andelous (?) sausage and shrimp...It was SO tasty, definately worth waiting for...

Dawn, I'll bet if you hubby ever tried grits this way he'd be a convert...My DH is a northerner (MA) and when he went into the military and had to have grits ( no other options ) started eating his with sugar ( grits-n-sugar ) now that is sacrilege, sorry Dawn, grits are just NOT supposed to be sweet ...
