Fruits and veges???
Does anyone besides me (and I'm not doing well with weight loss) eat 5 servings of fruits and veges after WLS? How about healthy fats? Whole grains and starches? Does everyone live on only or mostly protein? It seems that the people doing well are years out and mostly eating meat, protein powders, protein bars. Is it only those that post or does everyone eat that way? I am still trying to make this surgery work. My dietitian had fruits and veges and starches in from day 2 in the hospital. Was that my problem? thanks, Daisy
Daisy, your program sounds alot different than mine was. How far from your goal are you? Sounds like you are several years out and having some fruits and vegeatables is ok but we need to eat our protien first then add a small amount of veg's and fruit and whole grains ect.
I do not get in 5 daily servings of fruits and vegetables. I get in maybe 2-3 veg and sometimes one fruit serving. Are you taking your vitamins and supplements that is very important and are you getting in a minimum of 60 grams of protien a day? I shoot for 80-100 grams a day of protien.
I would suggest you go to a site like spark people.com or fit day and track your food intake and calculate amount of protien, fats and carbs you are taking in each day and then you can get an idea of what you can do to change things up some. Also be sure to incorporate some exercise at least 3 days a week if you are not doing so already.
I find, as many others will tell you, that when you eat a portion of dense protien (ie. skinless chicken, lean beef , pork or fish) first you will fill up easier and remain fuller longer. WHen eating carbohydates stay away from white rice, potato breads and sugary foods and eat only small amount of complex carbohydrates that take longer to digest and don't cause your blood sugar to spike and then drop resulting in your wanting to eat more of the same.
SInce you want to lose more weight I would concentrate on the protien and make sure you are getting in 8-10 cups of zero calorie, non caffienated beverages each day and limit the amounts of fruits as they can be high in natural sugars and have low starch vegetables as your carb choices.
When you reach your goal then try try adding in other foods slowly and watch the scale to see how you do with the added calories. I found out as I started to add in non veg carbs I had to be very carefull as time went on I ended up eating more than my body needed and have started to have some regain and now need to cut back on those evil carbs.
Wishing you all the best. YOU CAN continue to lose weight, it won't be as quick as in the first year after sugery but don't give up.
