If you look at the carbs for dinner, you can see where that sugar crash came from...ouch. I hate that.

But you probably fell asleep from the rice and mac and cheese. Carbs are off the charts there too. I would suggest to get your blood sugar under control eat more protein and less carby stuff...Just a thought but it has worked pretty well for me. I know when I have that carb cra**** can be dangerous, especially if I'm driving. I can fall asleep at the wheel, I've seen it happen to a friend of mine.

Keep after it. Practice makes perfect.

I wish I dumped from sugar or fat but unfortunately I have NO limitations from my surgery.  I just can't keep any junk food in my house.  I have to eat a ton of veges to try to stay on track because I never feel like I have eaten anything since my surgery.  I eat salads and cooked veges in broth (soup) all the time.  I was at my sister's house and the closest thing to a vege was the fatty sour cream soaked cucumber salad.  When my blood sugar is down in the thirty's, rice and pasta just bring it back to normal so I actually still had to take Benadryl to sleep.  I have to watch the amount of protein I eat (I have to keep it under 100 gms) so that my kidney's don't overload.  I can't even imagine driving when my blood sugar is high or low.  I get really agitated and angry as my blood sugar drops.  I feel better with high blood sugars.  I carry food and glucose tabs with me all the time.  Funny no one mentions low blood sugars before surgery.  Daisy

I don't usually have a problem with my blood sugar at all unless I have carbs like you listed. I use the protein to bring up my sugar slowly and stay in the upper levels where the pasta and rice bring it up too fast, then dump out.

My protein is habitually higher than 100 gr but I also water load to wash out my kidneys..

What levels do your blood sugars run that you can bring them up with protein?  Are you or were you a diabetic?  I have been a diabetic for 30 years and they were talking insulin pump before I had the RNY.  Usually the liver kicks out sugar when a normal person crashes but that mechanism does not work correctly in me anymore.  If I don't take a glucose tab or some carbohydrate I would end up comatose.  I never dump either.  I read in a diabetes book that diabetics without enough insulin don't dump.  When they measure my insulin levels (spot and long term) they are always low.  My endocrinologist told me not to eat more than 100 gms of protein a day.  I am afraid to go higher than that.  I do drink a lot of water and crystal light too.  I also can't drink alcohol anymore.  I didn't drink a lot or often but I miss social drinking.  That screws up my blood sugar as well.  I also get drunker than a skunk on very little wine.  I know not to eat sugar......it was a bad day.  Daisy

Hi Anyone who is listening...

Still struggled a little on Sunday, Mothers Day, with the carbs...It is patently obvious to me now that I have lost control on the weekends of my carb and cal intake and this is the area I really need to focus on changing if I want to drop off some lbs...I also do not exercise on the weekends besides house/yard work and fun with the kids & dogs, so will plan to add in another day of "planned" exercise once I get the food program working ( 1 step at a time, food
1st )

Sundays food:

B - 2 slices bacon, 1 turkey sausage link, 1.25 scrambled eggs and 1/2 an italian hard roll
       with butter

S1 - Starbucks triple venti sf nf cinnamon dulce latte

S2 - couple bites coconut cake, 1 sugar cookie, 1 oz provolone 1/2oz deli turkey ( grocery store
graze  , this has got to stop for sure )

L - choc and pb protein shake

D - 3 oz grilled BBQ chicken breast, 1/4 homemade mac-n-cheese, & 1 c caesar salad

111 oz water/hot tea/crystal light               Cals :  1231   Fat :  47   NetCarbs :  96    Prot :  127

Will check in later, Alesia  5'5"  137 lbs

You did pretty good for breakfast. I sometimes have a slice of whole wheat toast without the crust with breakfast..I'm thinking the latte is probably high carb but I don't know. coconut cake I'm sure but then it went all haywire after that. LOL.

But you caught yourself and ended well. the protein shake must have brought you back from the carb monster. the homemade mac and cheese at a quarter cup is NOTHING...hardly a taste.

Keep up the good work!

Hey Dawn,

Yeah, I got out of the grocery store, went home to unload groceries, then made the shake so I would stop myself from munching thru the afternoon, it worked pretty well cuz my shakes are pretty heavy in content ( not just powder and water )...

You are also right on the latte, the carbs are killer 25 carbs to 16 protein in the venti cup, but I really love them and I feel OK about it because I know the carbs in milk are good ones and otherwise the milk I use is low carb countdown...

Ate the mac-n-cheese cuz my oldest made it...All my boys were responsible for making 1 item of Mother's dinner and he decided on the m-n-c...Used to love it in the old days, doesn't really thrill me much these days so it was easy to push away...

Thanks for checking back...
