Doing Jenny Craig AFTER GBS?

So, finally decided I had to do something. I don't want to get back to 108. At that weight, I literally have no butt and ended up with a lot of pain in my seatbone. So, I'm aiming for 112 - 116. I was going to do the 5-day but I just couldn't bring myself to do the all liquid days. I like chewing!!
So, I decided to go on Jenny Craig for 8 weeks. I had successfully done this plan in the past and have found the convenience really worked for my lifestyle. Why did I go this route? For me, the financial obligation means I'll follow through, the food tastes great and I can easily continue to monitor my protein etc. I started on Saturday and have dropped 2 pounds...although as we all know, 2 pounds at the start of program is easy water weight! Anyway, I'm going to give it 2 months to see if I can get control again.
I've also committed to 1/2 hour each day of exercise on my Wii. I wear leg braces so walking isn't an option. But hoping the exrecise will boost a menopausal metabolism.
I just want to know if anyone has done Jenny after GBS? Were you able to make the program work? What about the counselors, were they knowledgeable about the needs of R-en-Y patients? Was there just too much food!?
Any input would be much appreaciated!
Well, end of the first week and I've lost 3 pounds. Not bad for a lightweight. I didn't meet my exercise goals but it was a tough week at work last week. Plan to up it this weekend to an hour each day and then work on the 1/2 hour a day.
Ate most of my food. I found I did have problems with the sheer volume of food. However, I am a MAJOR grazer, so I was actually able to find plenty of stuff to snack on. Lots of veggies and fruit. My protein each day was good, from a low day of 76 to a high of 89. The food was as tasty as I remembered with excellent variety.
Only down side was the consultant I spoke with. I'm on Jenny Direct because there are no centers near me. So my food is mailed to me and I have phone consults with people. So it was my first consult and the young woman they assigned me was not very knowledgeable at all. Didn't know anything about bypass surgery and my needs. So I requested a new consultant and was assigned a woman who has worked with bypass patients.
Overall I'm pleased with my decision and watching the scale move down instead of up for a change. Will keep folks updated as to my progress.
Hi,
I am 3 years out and just joined Weigh****chers last Monday. Today was my first weigh in and I lost 4 pounds.
My GB support group stopped meeting about two years ago and I have gained 20 lbs. since my lowest. I had tried WW many times before my surgery and it always seemed to be a well balanced program. I just could never stick with it due to lack of willpower, etc.
I found that LACK OF TRACKING was one of the main things that was contributing to my weight gain. Once I started keeping track of everything I was putting in my mouth, it was amazing. Although GB patients on average can't physically consume as much as everyone else at one sitting, I found that my grazing and eating regular calorie foods (instead of lower fat or lower calorie varieties) was slowly putting the weight back on.
The second thing that is helping is the Weigh****chers MEETING SUPPORT SYSTEM. Their meetings are great and really got me into the healthy eating and exercise frame of mind.
I hope that whatever route you decide to take will be successful for you. We all need a support system whether it be reading through bulletin board posts, sitting in a group discussion, or talking with other GP patients.
Best of luck!
