Am I Alone? 4 Years out and 50 pounds up.
Not much to say. Title says it all. Totally unhappy with myself and much of my life right now. It's my fault. I ate myself back up. It's been a year now that the weight has been piling up. I've figured I'm 25 up since last year, plus the 25 from the year before. I've tried the 5 day pouch test, not too much luck there. Trying again today. Failed already since who knew they made pumpkin PIE FILLING in the exact same can. So am I alone or not? Has anyone beat this???

2 years and maintaining well!
Hi Amber,
Believe me you're not alone!! I had my sleeve gastrectomy in 2006, never got down to my goal weight & now I've gained 25 lbs! But you know what? I'm doing something about it! And you can too! Start now, don't wait until those 50 turn into 75...then 100....!
I went back to the basics: This morning for breakfast; a protein drink, snack was a low fat mozzarella stick, lunch was salmon & veggies, snack cottage cheese & tonight so help me God, I'm having a salad with chicken. Today is my first day.....but I'm going to do it!! I'm dropping these 25 lbs, and then 25 more after that. I'm doing it, I'm doing it...and if you put your mind to it., YOU WILL do it also. Let's stay in touch & encourage each other. We went through too much to stop now. God Bless you..

I'm curious if you can eat more at one sitting or if it is grazing throughout the day. Do you feel restriction? How much can you eat at once - like can you eat a fairly large chicken breast and then some? Are you still doing the protein first, veggies/fruits, then "complex carbs"? Do you have reflux/heartburn - if so did you need to stay on meds from the beginning?
I almost got sleeved then my band began to work??? I was worried about losing restriction/stomach stretching in the long run as without restriction with the band I eat. I am one of those people who eat if they can no matter how much I try to refrain. It is a constant battle w. self when I have no restriction.
I've heard that surgeons are making the sleeves smaller now to encourage weight loss and to limit weight gain further post-op. Initially I thought the sleeve was by far one of the best restrictive only surgeries - it was "the answer" now after watching (some friends even) and reading closely, I really do not thing that the sleeve will sustain more complex cases like me or higher BMI's long term. My doc kept saying "remember the long term results are not in yet" he really didn't want to revise me. God, Weigh****chers, and my band (scar tissue might have shifted the bands position - we are not sure what happend, but the thing works like a charm) all kicked in together and made it so that I didn't need a revision.
Why don't you go on the VSG board as well. Can I push WW a little? It is great for the accountability, weigh-ins, and support!
All the best to you, you can do this.

I quit smoking in March and since then have gained 10 lbs and 5 prior to that (in about 4 months). So I'm up 15 lbs from my comfortable weight and 9 from my max goal weight of 130 lbs. I feel so darn fat and stuffed, very bloated (carbs).
This week I'm trying to regroup and if I cannot get better control will be using the 5DPT or just liquids only for 3-4 days next week to hopefully get rid of the carbs that keep calling my name. I wish I dumped but I've never been much of a dumper, the minor symptoms I do have aren't enough to make me stop.
Anyway, just know you aren't alone we need to all come on the board here and work through these issues. It sure gets harder the further out we are. In February I was still maintaining fairly easily and within a couple of months I feel so out of control. I do believe not smoking is a major factor but I know longterm not smoking is well worth some gain right now I cannot say I'm there yet.

My surgeon read me the riot act last week, so I'm back on the straight-and-narrow again. My downfall was Clif protein bars, and then eating several of them in a night. Combine that intake with my lack of exercise and depression about a job I hated and it equals a 50# weight gain.
I've already seen a drop on the scales, so there is hope!!
No more Clif bars, and more lettuce wraps for lunch!
Good luck!

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Now, for everyone else about to reach or just at goal, they read this and wonder how can I make sure thise doesn't happen to me? My current recommendation is based on my experience which has been working (so far).
1) Pick your goal weight and give some variation, +/-5 pounds for men and +/- 10 pounds for women seems OK.
2) Get a scale and weigh yourself once or twice a week. No more and certainly not every day.
3) If you get over or under your variance, take corrective action immediately. Eat less or more as needed, do cardio one more time a week, etc.
The easiest way to not have gained 50 pounds is to make sure you don't gain the first 15.
