Low B12 and tingling limbs question
I have recently had an issue with what started as tingling in my hips and sorta of hurting at night, It would wake me up and then I would switch to the other hip. It started in my legs, as well. Last night, I woke up and it appeared to be going on with quite a bit of my body. Recent lab worked showed I was quite low on B12. I started taking sublingual B12 again. I haven't taken this vitamin in a long time. Most of my other labs were good. Has anyone had this issue? I have heard on this board in the past that long term grads could have issues with the nervous system. Any input would be welcomed.

Sheron, how low was your B-12? Sublingual may not be sufficient if to bring it up quick enough, you may need to talk to your PCP or surgeon about injections. Yes, B vitamin deficiency can definitely cause irreversable neurological damage.
How were your other Bs, (1, 6)?

First off, I am sorry for your loss. I have nueropathy, which makes my arms and legs tingle ALL the time. It is from lack of B12. If you are that low on your levels you may want to ask your Doc to Rx you B12 shots cause sublingual B12 may not be enough. Believe me you want to get this nipped in the bud as fast as you can. The damage can be severe and irreversible, I should know.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE start taking a super B-complex vitamin if you aren't already.
Most labs don't test for ALL B vitamin deficiencies because those labs are so much more expensive to do than most other vitamin levels.
I had EXACTLY what you are experiencing and posted on OH my problems. Someone on here (I forget who, I'm sorry.) begged me to get on a B-Complex. After researching various B vitamin deficiences, I emailed my surgeon to make sure it was okay. Then I started a super B-Complex (from Wal-Mart) and my symptoms went away within a week or so.
My aunt had the same issue. I recommended that she start a B-Complex vitamin. She did and her symptoms also went away within a couple of weeks.
B-Complex vitamin deficiency can cause PERMANENT nerve damage (and PERMANENT short term memory damage, among other things).
You are correct in that peripheral neuropathy can be a sign of B-12 deficiency. But please don't ignore the OTHER b vitamins (whose deficiency can also be represented by perifpheral neuropathy) when you are seeking treatment.
Good luck!
