Eat This, Not That

That is the title of a new book my DIL gave me.  A real eye-opener.  Details foods that we MAY think are good for us, but really aren't.  Tells us how to shop for healthy food.  How to read and interpret labels.  How to recognize deception in labeling.

I knew some of this already (as I'm sure all of us dieters do).  But there is much that is new to me.

I recommend it to everyone who shops and eats.

I think the book would be valuable for many to read, especially if you are just starting to understand "food."  I'm a little concerned that the book is trying to say that it is OK to eat junk as long as it isn't worst junk.  Does it take 300 pages to realize a Cheeseburger is more appropriate than a Double Quarter Pounder?  Perhaps for some.

I would also recommend the following for people expanding their food library:

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto by Michael Pollan
Real Food: What to Eat and Why by Nina Planck
The Compassionate Carnivore by Catherine Friend
King Corn (DVD, 2007)
