Concerned Question

Hi

I am almost 3 years out from rny.  Earlier tonight I had a small jacket potoato with cheese for dinner.  Immediately after I finished eating, I began to feel ill and nausious and began to retch/vomit.

The thing is, even though I was retching from my stomach, no food came out!  So where was it?  I have never had a problem with vomiting after eating - I only once had a problem vomiting due to twisted intestines, but this resolved itself.

I am concerned that there appeared to be no food in my stomach as it would have been vomited out....any ideas, should I be concerned?  I am wondering if thr food could have passed through the stoma into the intestine that quickly????

Thank you

Did the potato become stuck?  I have this issue quite often, if the food is very dense (steak, salmon, etc.) or I do not chew it up well.  If the food is really stuck, I will wretch and nothing will come up.  Often, I have to drink water (suffer a few minutes) and then the food will finally come up.  You may some food in your stomach, but there could also be food that is blocking the stoma.  I hope this helps.

Ruth, my first thought was the same as Sheron stated that the food was stuck.

I agree with the others.  When it happens to me, I sure wish I could vomit it out!

Thank you to everyone for your replies.  I hadn't thought about the food getting stuck.  It didn't feel like it, but thinking about it now, that would explain it.

I feel very silly now, worrying over it and thinking my wls was 'broken', when it was something simple.

Like others... There are times I would love to vomit... just can not.

It is my understanding that since they took the top part of the stomach when creating the pouch and the bottom part is mainly where the gastric acids are that we do not have what it takes to push he vomit up... so to say. If food is "stuck" over we have stuffed ourselves to teh point that the food is sitting above the stoma that leads into the stomach we can force out that food. Which is why if you have ever noticed that IF THAT HAPPENS ( stuck food etc...) you can just bend over without actually gagging and some comes up...... Sorry for the visual here... LOL.... Okay with that said..... time for breakfast everyone... jsut kidding.

Possibly stuck like the others were saying. Sometimes I have that happen and try to vomit it out and nothing comes. I think it might be a delayed reaction by the pouch to a lump of food before it moves too far down. LIke a scratch as it passes by. You don't feel it until it's past the point that you can "get it back."

Hope you feel much better now.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Someone oh here told me a long time ago. If you feel food is stuck. To drink a glass of water with some meat tenderizer in it. I never done it so I don't know if it works or not. Just in case it happens again.
