I am 8 years post-op and have regained 35 lbs since my lowest weight. I am on a carb cycle as well. What is the 5 day pouch test?? I feel like I need to relearn how to eat all over again. Of course my biggest problem is my lack of exercise.
I've done it, had success reigning in the carb/sugar cycle and lost a couple of lbs with it. It isn't a plan to actually lose weight (although many do) but to regain control. I actually bought Kaye's book which I need to read again.
I'm going to do this or a similar plan starting on Monday. I'm 4 years out and dealing with some of the same situations you are.
As for the Fage, yes you can eat it. The thing to remember however is it is considered a slider food so it won't keep you satisfied as long as denser protein choices will.
Good Luck!

Has anyone tried this test... it looks interesting... more like a test of self control than anything. I am willing to try anything to lose a few pounds... it is creeping up on me and I want if off... in a healthy way. If anyone out there has tried this, did you follow it to a "T" and if so did you lose wt...how much? I was tempted to go back to 1 week liquid fast and lose wt, YES I KNOW, I woud gain most back... but I thought if I lost 6# and gained back 3 then I am still good for 3.... WOW what a warped way of thinking... LOL I must say I like this much better.
I cannot believe how many slider foods I consume in a day.... Every breakfast, snack and nibble session are all sliders.... no wonder I have slide 10 # back on my butt...... LOL
If you have tried this... please talk about it... I am thinking about making some of the soups and getting the groceries this week and maybe doing it next week... no sense in having trigger foods (cottage cheese and yogurt) in the house even.... finish my sliders this week and "GO PROTEIN" next....

I love cottage cheese and yogurt ... but I called them trigger foods when speaking of the 5 day pouch diet becuase they are considered "slider" foods that go down easy, and come out easy.... which is not the point of this pouch diet thing.... I was interested in trying the diet but wanted to know if others were on it and what the result was...Before I go out and buy all the foods they suggest....
I do make healthy choices, Its when I eat anything out of the norm or nibble on something or go out to dinner it STICKS right to my gut and takes FOREVER to get it off..... I will try anything to get this last 10#'s of winter fat off.....

There was a topic, oh, maybe a month ago about graduates who eat mushy foods frequently. I counted myself in that category in that I eat Cottage Cheese, Yogurt, Soup, and Stew very frequently, ground meat less often, and things like Chicken Breast, Steak, and Pork tenderloin or Chops twice a month (if that).
I have never done the 5 day pouch test. Any time I want to be more careful with eating, I discontinue ALL between meal snacking and start a food log.

The whole point of the test is to do a mini beginning within 5 days...You start on liquids first two days...soft proteins like yogurts and cottage cheese (all your sliders,,,then to softer proteins like chopped meats and fish and finally solid protein...So yes, you are supposed to do the sliders for three full days...It helps you to "feel" your pouch and the similar fullness/tightness you used to feel when you first started ...The different stages of the pouch test is how that happens by giving your pouch some rest from heavy foods and not eating carbs to get rid of any carb habits and cravings (carb monster) ....
I've done it and LOVED the results...I was off track...outta control and could not seem to get myself together after a month long binge at my moms over holidays! I gained 10 pounds from eating all kinds of stuff I knew I shouldn't....I had bad gas...bad cravings, was addicted to chocolate peppermint candies, bread and other things i had cut out of my lifestyle of eating...I was hungry all the time and my pouch was sooo grumpy...I felt awful but I couldn't break free of it until I did that 5 DPT...After the first two days I felt 100% better...There was a peace in my pouch like I hadn't felt in a LONG time! I was amazed how full I felt and how little I needed...I realized the importance of dense protein for staying fuller longer without eating a lot of carbs.
I didn't realize how just how MUCH simple carb REALLY make you crave and eat more. When I added back frutis and veggies I was still having trouble losing the last 3-4 lbs of the ten I gained. I realized that carbs don't make you gain weight (water, but not weight) CALORIES do...and it was calories I needed to cut! So that's what I did and lost my weight! Kept it off all year!
Try it...But be prepared to start logging your food, because it's calories you need to watch to lose weight...Adding exercise helps as well...and making sure your vit levels are all good....On top of gaining all that weight I decided to go get my labs (after trying to diet) I should have went first...I was anemic and had several vit defs...Who knew you could be malnourished and still gain weight? But when you body is malnourished it doesn't function properly so I get that now!
Good luck!
