2 years 5 months out

OK--my weight is staying fairly steady. I was a pound or two higher this week, but basically it's pretty stable. I have been sticking to my exercise routine (getting up at 4:45--to the gym by 5:25ish--work out til 6:30--then shower change and go to work)--when I'm here---have been traveling a lot for work---and most of the time have been able to exercise even when I'm traveling.

BUT my food issues have been HORRENDOUS!!!!

Friday at noon ate at a buffet--made myself sick--no vomiting just pain

Yesterday- cooked for taking stuff to a party--red beans and rice and bread pudding with whiskey sauce

Did fair---too much graZING-- chocolate, chips in the day--ate a couple of hours before I went to the party--trying to get myself to a good place---then ate 2 servings of ice cream at the party---what the F#@$% am I doing and thinking???? Was hurting AGAIN when I left the party...feeling like I'm losing control--and it isn't pretty or fun!!!

How do you guys cope with this--please tell me others of you have felt/acted like this!!!

Please help me...

Kim, I have those days to, and unfortunately I don't dump but get sick to my stomach and vow to never do it again, the cycle is tough.

I wish I could say it gets easier but I suspect it won't.  My opinion on it is if I can be honest and good 90% of the time then that's enough for me; and for the most part I can live that way.

Today is a new day, try planning your week out with choices.  Have your servings all measured out.  There is a lady on another board that said she allows herself 200-300 calories per day for the not so healthy foods, for when she loses control.  Sounds reasonable to me IF you can do that and not make it an every day situation.

You are partaking of far too many carbs--you know better than that!  The more carbs you eat, the more you will want--that is the poison part of our insulin-resistance.

Stop with the white foods and get back to your protein first.

Hugs and gentle "noogies"

I am right there with you. I've put on a few pounds lately and I know I need to make some changes. I have to eat snacks to keep my blood sugar levels up, but I've been eating way too much of the wrong thing. So today I brought a spinach salad with turkey and light Italian dressing to eat through the day, instead of the usual. I've been good with my work-outs, but I'm going to try to get in a little walking at lunch-time to go along with it. This sucks. If I'd been God, Twinkies would be good for you and nobody would have to worry about getting fat.

I generally hold to the theory that if my weight is stable then I don't have a problem.  So far, I don't have a problem.

That doesn't mean I'm the poster child for good eating.  As you may know, McDonalds has come out with the Shamrock Shake for the season.  And I thought, oh man, I haven't tried one in 10 years.  So I ordered a small (that in itself is an improvement!) and, to be honest, it wasn't as good as I remember it being.

I also felt miserable for a little while afterward.  This means that it REALLY wasn't worth all the trouble.  Maybe in 10 more years I'll try it again.

Kim...........
OK, I can tell you things to make you feel better or I can tell you the truth.  Having been through this, I've discovered truth is best.......so here it goes.  There is no short cut, no way out.  You can't graze, you can't indulge in white food.  You must limit your carbs....some people more severely than others.  Your body does not handle the carbs.  Period.  If you indulge, it will catch up with you and you will pay.  We all "fall off the wagon" so to speak.  If you want to feel better, not have carb cravings and be in control, you will have to be in control of every bite that you put into your mouth.  End of story.  You cannot eat without having your mind engaged.  Believe it or not, it is possible.  But, you have to choose being engaged as a goal and actively pursue it.  To get where YOU want to go, YOU cannot eat like other people....  If you have to have a sweet, etc......plan for it.  Decide ahead of time how much you will eat.  Immediately maintain your program.  The Protein Power Plan by Dr Michael Eads, has done wonders for me.  This program allows you to easily calculate grams of protein needed, carbs, etc.  Has a great structured meal plan one can follow and allows you to progress into additional carbs as your personal metabolism handles.  I tried a ton of stuff, 5 day pouch test, etc....on and on.  This medically sound program saved the day.  It gave me back my pouch, stopped cravings, stabalized my mood, lost weight, and has allowed me to determine exactly how many carbs I can eat and still not have low blood sugar issues, gain weight, etc.  All I'm saying is it sure worked for me.  As always check with your nutrionist and or MD.  Good luck and take care.  Truth is so hard to face.....we start looking "normal" and we start thinking our bodies are.  We are....our bodies aren't.  TG

Hello.  I read your post and am curious what the Protein Power Plan is by Dr. Eads.  I am 2 years out and still battling to get another 50 lbs off.  I exercist regularly, eat only one carb a day, which most days is one slice of 100% whole wheat toast.  I eat NO sugar, NO processed foods, and for the most part, no fruit!  I get in my water and vits, and get in around 60 gm of  protein a day.  It's taken me probably 6 weeks to lose 4 lbs.  I don't really have cravings since I don't eat sugar or refined foods.  I'm not sure if this is just how it's going to be since I am 2 years out or if I should be losing faster.  I use the term "should" loosely since I know everyone is different.  Anyway, just thought I'd ask about the plan to which you were speaking.

Thanks!

Hi, Sherry !
....................Sorry you're having so much trouble getting the last pounds off.  I recommend you actually buy the book, "Protein Power Plan."  It  explains all you need to know.  Just giving you a rough overview would not give you the information you need or adequately cover the program.  In a nut shell, carbs are initially very limited, but  you will be adding more carbs and typically more than the other low carb/protein focused eating plans.  The program allows me to determine what my level of carb consumption can be and still maintain my blood sugar and loose or maintain my weight.
When you say you are eating only " 1 carb" a day.  Depending on the bread, you are eating a minimun of 8 grams of carb a day and quite possibly 20-21 grams of carb.  In addition, if you are eating vegetables, and fruit, you are consuming a considerable amount of carbohydrates.  There is a difference between a carbohydrate exchange list such as 1 slice of bread equals 1 exchange of carbohydrate on an diabetic exchange diet and the actual grams of carbohydrate you really are consuming.  You must calculate carbs on the grams  you consume, not the number of carb items you eat a day.  If you eat 3 carb items a day and say choose; a medium pear, a slice of wheat bread, and a banana.......you would consume about 50 or more carbs for the day!  Hope this helps........You need some carbs.....you just may be consuming way more than you than and consequently stalling your weight loss.  You may have accidently stumbled on your carb limit for weight maintenance.  You can get the book from Barnes & Noble on line....I got mine in the store.  You will not do without carbs by any means.  If you've settled into a very structure set of foods you're consuming, you may need to change things up and trigger your metabolism.  The other thing to think about is;  How is your thyroid functioning?  If your thyroid is functioning a little hypoactively then you may need a thyroid supplement.  Check with your doctors as always.  The Protein Power Plan also has exercise that is designed to promote increased metabolism.  good luck..TG
