Tailbone update! Good news/Bad news

It's been a while since I posted about this but for those of you that don't know or don't remember...I've been having horrible tailbone pain for quite some time now.  I've tried special pillows, oral pain meds, cortisone injections, ice, heat, manual manipulation, therapy, electrical stimulation...you name it, I've tried it.  I found some really great info on ****yx.org and went back to see the orthopedic spine doc today. I asked him to do the dynamic (standing/sitting) x-rays I read about on ****yx.org.  He was more than happy to do them and when he looked at the results he was blown away! He said it was the most impressive thing (not in a good way) that he'd seen in a long time.

The normal tailbone will flex no more than 25 degrees when sitting. Sometime all the ****yx bones or sometimes just the last 2.  Like this...

My tailbone flexes over 50 degrees to an almost 90 degree angle when sitting.  Like this...

Can you say ouch!?!?!?

The official diagnosis now is: unstable/hyper-mobile ****yx with chronic ****ydynia.

The doc (and my husband, and everyone else for that matter) is finally sympathetic to my complaints of pain.  The doc agreed that a ****ygectomy (removing the tailbone) is the best course of action and he has put in a request with the insurance company for approval.  And he gave me a low dose Fentanyl patch for the pain - hopefully that works until I can get this thing taken care of!

So the good news is that it's not all in my head - there really is a valid reason for my pain.  The bad news is that surgery is required to fix it :(   but at this point I don't care.  I'm more than willing to go under the knife again to get rid of this pain!

Ta-ta for now,

Bekah

OMG..  I'll say it ... OUCH!!  That has to be crazy painful.  You poor baby.  Hang in there.  It sounds like some relief is on its way.
So does this mean standing relieves the pain.  You just can never sit?  OUCH!!!  Keep us informed.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Gentle hugs and love to ya.

Glad to know you got confirmation - I know what it's like to have everything think you're crazy about the pain!
Hope it all works out and you can be pain-free soon!

OK--Medical person first.  "Those would be sweet x-rays to see and do!!!!!"  LOL  x-ray humor.

I am so glad that hubby got to hear that but sorry you'll have to have surgery.  Good news is maybe after healing you will be pain free and can get back to a normal life!!!!!

Keep us updated!

Bekah,

It's nice to know you're not crazy isn't it!  I'm so happy you finally got a diagnosis for your pain, I remember all your posts about everything you were trying to relieve it.  I'm so sorry it will take surgery to fix it.

Does your Doc have any idea of why you have this?  Did you have the pain pre-WLS?

Keep us posted on your surgery and recovery!
