Protein hot chocolate

I see a lot of you drink protein hot chocolate. I've never tried this.  Can you make this with any type of protein powder?  I normally have whey vanilla protein powder on hand at all times.  I'm trying to figure out how you get the protein to dissolve?  And, do you mix the protein into the water/milk BEFORE heating? Or after?

Thanks!

What I generally do is add the protein mix to about 3-4 oz of water or milk and stir until the protein powder is well mixed.  After mixing, I add the ho****er to this mixture.  You don't want to get the protein mix too hot, or it will lump and not be very appetizing.  It may take a time or two of trying this to get it the consistency and warmth that you want, but it is filling and great on a cold morning.

After making this a couple of winters in a row while getting ready for work at 3 in the morning I've got the routine down with a new helper:  http://www.amazon.com/Back-Basics-CM300BR-Cocoa-Latte-Chrome /dp/B0002TUVQM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=123 4285157&sr=8-1

I drink a protein latte made with one scoop choc. prot. powder (my current love is NDS Amplify Smoothie in chocolate), 14 oz. of a lactaid and espresso mix that I make in 2-qt. batches on Sunday evening, 2 oz. or more of a sugar free coffee syrup (DaVinci or Torani) and a spoonful of dissolvable fiber powder.  It all goes in the cocoa latte maker and 'cooks' while I finish getting ready for work.  The little blender/heater stirs it up smooth and lump free and heats it perfectly without overcooking.   The only drawback to this little appliance is the spigot.  It is essentially useless and from what I read on the internet, can leak in time.  It is a booger to clean but you MUST or you will grow all kinds of icky bacteria.  I rinse and fill mine before I head out to work and then scrub it when I get home so it'll be ready to go the next morning.

Some days i just don't feel like the latte version so I just use a packet of 25-cal cocoa mix and the rest instead.  I always want to fill my 16 oz. commuter mug so that's the proportions I stick with anyway.

Hey Tiffany,

If I am making with powder I mix 1/2 scoop with a 1/4 cup very cold milk  and add my ho****er , it usually delutes it enough to keep the powder from clumping up...Also Oh Yeah recently came out with a liquid protein "shake" that is actually like chocolate milk or vanilla, it is really tasty and can be heated ( I've put it in the micro for 40 seconds 1/4 cup with not problems), so I use this now as creamer for my morning coffee, doesn't pack the same punch protein wise in such small amount but still really good...GNC carries the Oh Yeah, it runs $3.99 for one and 2nd is 1/2 off & they do sell it in singles in my area so I don't have to buy it by the case like when I order off the internet...

Enjoy, I use Cocoa as a sweet substitute when I'm craving goodies at nighttime...

I make mine very similar to Molly except that I have a machine by Mr. Coffee, Cafe Motion.  It works really well, no clumping.  However, when I used milk instead of water with my protein it did clump.  So again, be prepared to experiment.

I use the diet swiss miss hot chocolate pack with 1 scoop of protein and 8 - 10 oz of milk.

Put the protein powder and the swiss in a mug, add a little water and mix that up til it's like a paste then stir in hot milk. If it's too hot, it will clump and it's nasty!

I order the BariWise protein hot cocoa from dietdirect.com.  It's awesome, 15 grams of protein, low carbs and cals and sugar free and it dissolves instantly with no problems at all.  After trying and trying with protein powder to get it dissolved to make hot cocoa I found this and I love it!  I try to catch it on sale because it's pricey but the flavors are chocolate marshmellow, chocolate raspberry, mocha, chocolate mint, chocolate, choc cinnamon, and amaretto.  YUM

I use Matrix 5.0 and mix 2 scoops in a large mug with lukewarm water, after stirred I top off with hot, but not boiling water.  You can check the recipe at bariatriceating.com it has the instructions on there.

I use only water. Coffee pot hot (not nuked, not espresso -hot) or my insta-hot. Not much more than 160 deg.

I use Champion Pure Whey Stack choco (appx 16g) + IDS vanilla-cinnamon (appx 16g) with about 10 oz water. I add the BA calcium crystals and a shake of cinnamon if it's handy.
