Any Night Snackers???

I'm a night snacker...and if I am not stocked up on good healthy snacks...I am going to find something that is not good for me...I have tried to cut out snacking but I just can't seem to do it because I eat an early dinner and stay up late...I usually have two snacks after dinner...One is usually a fruit and later something salty or crunchy or protein...Actually anything just to get rid of any hunger a few hours before bed....

So...I was able to cut back on at least one snack with toothpaste!  The mintier the better...No, do not snack on toothpaste but hmmmm?? No that I mentioned that, maybe a little teeny refresher dab might do me for the second snack!!  LOL After dinner...I wait til that snack attack comes on and I brush my teeth with really minty toothpaste....NOTHING tastes good after you brush your teeth excep****er! Plus the mint just kinda tells my belly it's done eating...It shuts off head hunger like NOTHING ELSE!  It's so great!  It holds me over til my last snack which is usually my lighter snack and wow! That really helps!  Just thought I'd share!

Hugs!

Hi Anita,

I can DEFINATELY relate to the night snacking thing...This is the time I will consistantly fall of the wagon on good intentions and graze for no other reason then " go**** sounds good"...My trick to beat it is to have a cup of hot chai tea or cocoa, sometimes with protein added if I need to supplement my numbers for the day...

Know it doesn't do much to help, but wanted you to know you are not alone in this...

I don't do all that bad, but there are some nights it feels like NOTHING satisfies me!  I'm not gaining weight, but I worry sometimes with the amount of food I can eat!  Snacking at night is just one of those things I just cannot get good control of...If I didn't make really good choices most of the time, I'd be crying for sure!

It 's weird because at night, I feel like I don't even have WLS or a pouch...during the day I do just fine...But after dinner...it's like the semi bottomless pit....I can pick and pick and not seem to get full but I will dump if I over do it!  LOL  I just don't feel full til it's too late!  Only at night!  Okay, now I am just whining!  LOL  In the summer I don't do this bad because I have such full days that I am too tired to eat...I just fall to sleep early and don't even make it to snacking!

But thanks...it is good to know we are not alone...Hugs!

Anita,

I'm glad you posted this, I don't feel as alone now.

I have 4 birds, their normal sleep cycle is sundown to sunup.  Because of them I usually go upstairs around 7:30.  Then I check email, OH and my other sites.  I'm fine as long as I'm doing that.  But as soon as I turn the laptop off, I just want to eat and eat.  Since I have sleep issues, I often wake up in the middle of the night and have another snack. It's so frustrating!

To make it even worse, I sometimes Ambien eat! LOL!

I'll try the toothpaste trick tonight!

My trick is to stay out of the house. Nothing else seems to work. So every night i go to the YMCA. I spend at least an hour there. 1 down 3 to go, since  i am only home about 4 hrs before bedtime. I exercise and shower. Then come home cook dinner and eat. By this time it is 7 pm or later, so i do the homework w/ the kids, cook for the next day, get on the computer. Now you would think if i exercise everyday i would be the epitome of health, but truthfully, i am just starting back at getting out of the house. My secret go right after work. Once i come home i don't wantto leave again. I also do my errands during teh week to keep me out of the house. Minty toothpaste would remind me of chocolate mint icecream. LOL just like those darn fruit scented shampoos make me want to eat my own hair. LOL
Secret is find what works for you.
Take care

I slept over and babysat for my brother-in-laws parrot...NEVER again! LOL That thing immitates their newborn and wails like a baby at 6 am...Scared the holy living bejesus outta me!  So I get the idea! Now I understand WHY you put a dark drape over bird cages!  haha

I don't wake in the middle of the night...I am up in the middle of the night...I sometimes say goodbye/night to my hubby who leaves at 4 am for Wash DC...Sleep til 10 am and off to work after lunch til 7-8 pm...When I get home, the snacking begins!  I think sitting on the couch is a trigger!  LOL  Kinda like when I used to get in the car and automatically light a cigg...(quit smoking 6 years ago) but that was the SAME exact thing...Once I start a habit/routine/urge  (whatever that is) I can't seem to break it.

The toothpaste seriously deters me from grazing though...because it makes everything taste so bad! LOL  It truly shuts off the urge to eat...It's so cool...Plus my dog won't lick me in the face when I brush my teeth!  LOL  She usually jumps in bed with me for a big wet kiss before she settles at my feet!  Lately she comes over and just pretends she kisses me!  "whisker kisses"  LOL So funny!

I hope it helps you too!  I truly do!

I never saw/heard the term "Ambien eat" till I read your post, but as soon as I saw it I was like, ME TOO!  Well, I think, anyway.  I take my ambien and then go make food and eat.  And then I don't remember until sometimes I get up in the morning and see the evidence of my food preparation on the kitchen counter!  Is that what you are talking about?

One of my birds talk, two others chirp and the fourth squaks!  :)

My dog though loves the smell of toothpaste!  I'll get more kisses!  LOL
