I can't stop eating

I'm hoping someone can say something that will help me work through this.  I had Bypass one and a half years ago.  I lost 102 pounds.  I'm skinny - size 2 - its wonderful!

The problem is that I seem to have slowly increased my eating habits.  I started eating a LOT of watermelon for about 4 months - all day - every day.  Then I started wanting coffee all day long.  Now tha****ermelon is out of season, I'm eating oranges and bananas and coffee and Kashi protein/cereal bars all day long.  That's all I eat, except for at dinner - I'll eat something small.  For about a month I was constantly eating frozen protein smoothies - a pitcher a day - but I stopped that.

So, the eating doesn't stop - I just constantly have the urge to eat something or drink coffee.  Even though its healthy stuff, I gained 2 pounds.  I'm afraid it could be the beginning of an upward spiral.

Are you exercising? Gaining two pounds in not the end of the world. You have to be careful here, are you trading eating disorders?
How about eating steak, roast beef, chicken instead of drinking protein smoothies. As far out as you are you should be getting all your protein from food and not drinks.

No - no exercise.  I've had to face the fact that I'll never be one who exercises.  But I walk a LOT at work.

I think the smoothie thing was about all the fruit (sugar) that was in them that made me crave them so much.  I conquered that though.

Trading eating disorders occured to me but now I've gained another 2 pounds - 4 in a month - so now I know for sure I'm doing some things wrong.  Thanks to some of the great comments I've received I think I know what I have to do to get back on track.

I appreciate your response.

You seem to be eating a lot of slider foods and liquids.  Try dense proteins, that will fill you up faster and longer.  Still need to focus on proteins - less sugars even if they are from complex carbs.  Two pounds isn't much but use that as your signal to monitor your eating closer.  Get the refined carbs out of your diet as they increase cravings.  I recently went to a Bariatric Support Group Leader course and even 10-12 years out the instructors were training us to focus on protein first - 3 bites protein to 1 bite carbs.  Remember what you were taught in the beginning:  dense protein first, low carb vegtables second, fruit third, then small amount of complex carbs only if you have room.  Congratulations on your weight loss.  Shelli

I would definitely try to eat healthy.  Eating all day I think is not healthy.  It may be the begining of out of control eating at least that's what I think may have happened to me.  I did not take advantage of that period of time we have to get our eating healthier because sooner or later we can eat a lot more and by then hopefully we have established a healthy way of eating.  but who knows maybe for you it will be different.  I was skinny too for a little while but that changed.  Susie

Your "slider food" comment really struck a cord with me.  I've never heard that term before but its so true.  I've been eating things that go down easily so I never feel full.

I also agree with your point about eating more proteins (meat - yuck!)  I'll try your 3-1 hint.

Great comments.  Thank you very much.

I would not consider 2 pounds a weight gain.  Take a good poop.

I'm usually +/- 5 on any given day.  Oooh, that must make me full of

You have some interesting food cravings/ behavior!  LOL  It's like you find these "comfort foods" that you make into "habits"...I know I have a little of that...If I find something I like...whether it's food or clothes or anything...I tend to stock up or buy one in every color...I'm not sure if that is a "disorder" LOL or what!?  It probably is!

You need to keep an eye on that and not let your food choices turn into worse choices.  Your all day eating foods that you mentioned are ALL high natural sugar...Be careful!  Watermelon is one of the highest sugar of all the fruits as well as bananas and oranges!  So is Kashi.  Keep an eye on that sweetie!  It sounds like a carb monster to me...You would do MUCH better if you begin your day with an egg or some meat protein rather than carbs...and make sure you eat dense protein meals so you don't graze all day on these high sugar foods...At your very small size, your metabolism seems to be handling it well, but that might not be the case later down the line...Watch those 2 lbs!  If they start turning into 5-6 lbs...It's time to nip grazing on high sugars in the bud ...

I eat every 3-4 hours and 3 main meals daily...I eat  a banana nearly every single day as a snack during work...as well as eating at least 5 different veggie/fruits daily.....I am active and need those carbs for fuel...As long as you are active and ultilzing those carbs, you should be okay...but you need some good dense protein as well and it might surprize you how well it holds you too.  Just a suggestion...Just stay aware that it might become a problem and DON'T let it win! :)

Thank you so much for some really great comments.  Yes, now that you mention it, I have that "habit" tendency...when I find something I'm comfortable with I stock up.

OK, so I've gained another 2 pounds.  That's 4 pounds in a month so I now know for sure that I need to change my habits.

You're right - everything is full of sugar.  And soft (easy to get down).  I think I'm gravitating toward the fruit because I hate drinking water. It feels heavy and uncomfortable.  I also hate eating meat - again heavy.

I think I'll try the suggestions I've gotten.  More meat (Yuck) and more vegetables-and some water.  I'll try eating an egg for breakfast and see where that goes.

I'm terrified of failing so I want to make any changes I need to so that I can stay where I am always.  It really helps to have people who understand this to go to for their experienced comments.  Thank you!
