Nausea - Low Blood Sugar
I don't post too often, but have a question.
I hate getting neaseated.. I hate it with a passion, but can't seem to make it stop. I can eat a certain thing 5 times in a row, and the 6th time it makes me sick. I do dump, sort of. It isn't the full fledged dumping that some get, but I do get really nauseated and feel bad for 30-45 minutes, then it will go away and all will be fine. It makes me crazy!! If there were some rhyme or reason to it, I would quit doing whatever it is that makes me sick, but I never know.
I know I don't eat as healthy as I should.. they didn't operate on my head unfortunately.. ugh!! but when I eat the same thing that I have eaten before, I don't think it is going to make me sick & then it does...
Now - I was also wondering how many of you experience low blood sugar? I have had 2 bouts with it since Saturday. I haven't changed a thing, just all of a sudden it hits me and I am all shaky my blood surgar is usally in the 60's when this happens. Then of course.. when I eat to get rid of it, I end up getting.... you guessed it, nauseated...
GOOD GRIEF!!
I am so very thankful for my surgery and for the most part feel sooo very much better than I did... but this is making me crazy.
I was wondering if any of you have any ideas of things I might try to help counteract the nausea when it hits??
Thanks for reading
Hugs

I get low blood sugar issues when I have white carbs (bread, rice, pasta). Reactive Hypoglycemia is what it's called and my blood sugar has dropped down to 28 at one time. I have to keep something around to nibble when it happens (like a cracker or peanut butter).
Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130
I think I might have to start keeping something with me all the time, especially if it keeps up. My plan calls for 3 meals a day, period. So I guess I better check with my NUT and see what she suggests I do.
There doesn't seem to be any real reason/cause that I can tell. I had a protein drink for b-fast this morning, same thing I have every morning and a few hours later I was shaking... & yep, my blood sugar was 64. The only reason I am able to check it is because my DH has diabetes. I wasn't there yet... thank goodness for the surgery or I am sure I would have been.
I am really looking for any tips on helping with the nausea.
Thanks so much for your reply...

My plan does not allow snacks, only 3 meals a day.. period.
I have not changed anything I am doing, I guess that's why I am surprised that I am getting the low blood sugar readings all of a sudden..
thanks for youre reply, I do appreciate it & your well wishes

There is a condition called nesidioblastosis that seems to occur around 2 years out. The beta cells of the pancreas make way too much insulin and causes your blood sugar to tank. With this, you can eat the same food day in and day out and one day your sugar is fine and the next day it isn't.
I ended up having 60% of my pancreas removed. I'm better, but still do have issues at times. I eat 5-6 small meals a day to keep my blood sugar somewhat stable. You should have this checked into. Try not to bring your sugar up with sugar. You will get into the "roller coaster" mode. It's much better to try to get it up with protein and some carb. My endo has me drink milk when I get low. Not always convenient to carry milk around. That's why 5-6 small meals works well.
I agree with the other posters, to stay away from all the "white" carbs.
The problem with nesidioblastosis is that it's unpredictable. Always keep some type of food with you.

I am 3 years post-op and still have nausea problems - doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I too can eat something all along and then I eat it and wham. I never throw up but I get very nauseated, weak, sweaty sometimes, etc., and like you said it passes. I don't think there is anything you can do about it.
I do want to comment on your plan of three meals with no snaks. I don't see how you do that. I eat several times a day -- my blood sugar would go nuts if I didn't. I have to eat often to stay on an even keel - and then sometimes I still get shaky and the blood sugar goes too low.
We had our digestive tracts altered forever and we have to learn to live with our new bodies. We have to do what works for us. We HAVE to get enough protein and take GOOD vitamins, etc.
Three years out and I still have not eaten bread, rice, potatoes, any starches whatsoever. I was diabetic and know what these foods do to my blood sugar (not to mention that they made me overweight in the first place).
Hope your nausea subsides, but don't be too disappointed if it doesn't. You might want to try eating more often to keep your blood sugar levels more even.
Good luck,
Linda
It scares me though.. I can't go back to where I came from, and eating more times a day seems like I am giving in, does that make sense?
This is really hard work.... I thought losing the weight would be the hard part, but once you get there, or at least close and start maintaining, it gets even harder. I hear people say that but you just don't realize until you get there..
Thanks for your reply Linda
you gave me lots to think about
