New here, ? on calories
I'm 1 year out and am struggling with maintaining.......I see so many people eating different calories......
I myself HAVE to exercise everyday or I gain......And I usually eat only 1,000 calories a day, or I gain.......
I see some people eat 1600 or more, some don't exercise........????
Lately it seems for me to loose weight I have to exercise twice a day, and eat the very minimal.......My protein and no extra's.....And no more than 1,000 calories......I usually get in my 64oz. of water, and take my vitamins......
I hope this doesn't continue.....But I have a feeling this is my road.........Somedays I feel so hungry with only eating 1,000 calories........
Any idea's or advice?
Thanks, Kelly
My bet is that you are not eating enough calories and your body is hanging onto everything you put in it because of the exercise. You are only one year out and the surgery is geared to lose weight for up to 18-24 months. And 1,000 calories is pretty low. Do you do the same exercise every day? You may have to vary between cardio and muscle building so the body doesn't get used to the same old thing and adjust itself for that with the calorie intake either. And if you don't intensify your workouts a few times a week, your aerobic zone may have changed.
You may have to increase both your calories and your exercise to find a happy medium. Up your protein (which will increase the calories but it doesn't have to increase fat or carb intake) and intensify/switch up your exercise. Try it for a month and see what happens.
Thanks for replying...........
My nurse told me to stay around 1,000 calories to maintain.......And had said if I want to loose to either up my exercise or back down my calories.......But I see so many people eating more calories.........???? I think I may up my exercise and add a few calories and see what happens......
I do my treadmill once a day, burning 300 calories or more, depending on the workout I pick......Usually it's 3-4 mph. 6-10% incline for 30 minutes. I have recently started using my home gym again, 2 times a week for 30 minutes a time......
I have noticed my heartbeat has lowered, it was in the 140's while working out on the treadmill, now it's in the 120's.......So I will have to increase my workout on the treadmill.......
Thanks again.....Kelly
I'm still in the losing phase...27 more lbs to go. I eat 1000 calories as well, although my dietician really wants me to be eating more...but I'm afraid to. She says that once I reach my goal weight, I will need around 2000 calories to maintain!
I also exercise 6 days a week and do pretty intense cardio, plus weights. When I do my cardio, my heart rate goal is 170-180 beats per minute.
In the last four weeks, I lost another 13 lbs, so the weight loss is still moving along at a pretty good clip.
So, I would agree with the previous posters...try upping your calories just a bit, and definitely increase the intensity of your exercise.
Good luck!
Lori
OMG, You are doing fabulous........Great job......
Yep, I'm going to start increasing my intensity of workouts, and add good protein.
Wow, 2,000 calories for maintaining.......For me that would be too much, I'd gain.
My weight loss has totally stalled......But maybe with more intense exercise and more protein it will start coming off again.......I'm happy where I'm at, but would really like to loose 10 more pounds.....
At my 1 year appt. the Doctor said I've lost 94% of my excess weight, so he said it will be very hard to loose anymore.......But it is possible.......
Thanks so much for posting, it's nice to hear what others are doing that had the same surgery time line........
